    Exclamation DataBase Rant

I dont know how many folks on here actually use the database but i do know i have seen a bunch of successes on here with no-one adding to the database.

Im going to use Steve Atwater as an example. Looked him up in the database to see about his addy, wait times, people that have sent & apears only RGP has ever sent & recieved something from him. I know i have seen atleast 3, maybe more successes from him in the last 2 weeks.

another example.. Last 2 pages in the Multi Sport Success Thread has a total of 31 successes posted, with 17 updates to the database & 14 successes not updated. Not going to rage on anyone & realize we all have lives but this database & site is ONLY going to be as good as we make it & helping each other out by taking the time to add your success to the database is a great start.

I do Understand the successes with some athletes NOT wanting there addresses made public, thats not what this is about.. Im talkign about good signers that we all know about & members forgeting or just not bothering to add to the database.

Im not going to call anyone out or whatever, just want people to take the time to add there info into the database. Its an incredible tool & can very useful for everyone if we all take the extra 10 seconds to add the proper info.

I'm as guilty as the next guy for not adding every last success I get...I try to add in as many as I can, but I don't always remember since I don't check the database on a daily basis like I do the rest of the forum...I also don't post when I send out in the database, only when I get a return. Need to work on remembering every success!

I know I stopped posting my stuff to the database(for the most part) because I know it upsets some people that I send to guys multiple times a year. I stopped posting and the comments mentioning it stopped.

That said, I am not opposed to entering my data in again. I've cut back on ttm to save up for my trip last week but am getting about 15-20 requests ready to go this week-I'll enter them in when I do.

Thanks for the post lambeauleap87.. Not directing my Rant at anyone in particular , I just feel we have the best community here on SCF with everyone helping each other out. I feel strongly that adding good info to the database is important to make our hobby strong & as successful as possible..

Thanks for the post Sawks.. Really in all honesty, who cares how many times you send to a certain guy. If you send to Bobby Doerr 5 times in a year so be it. He's a great signer & not going to stop because one guy sent to him 5 times. He would more then likely stop because he gets 30+ request a day from all over. That argument gets old that " Your going to ruin the hobby sending so much " Thats BS in my book.

I have done my best to post if I get a success from a home address or a business address, I just don't tend to post when I got someone c/o their current MLB team, for instance, which anyone can mail to. The address is pretty well known

If the player is already in the database, then I put my pending/success in the TTM records. If it's not, sometimes I add them and sometimes I don't. If I don't before and then a success later, I go in and add mine to that player. That being said, it sounds like I'm better than most people.

I also got a wall post on my profile from someone asking me if I got a return from _________ yet... sent 5 months ago to ST! This means you are right, the database is starting to become worthless...

Agreed man. Sometimes I don't get it updated for a week or so if I have a lot of successes, as I usually end up adding an address or two, and I also update SCN's database with my successes too, but I try to get every success of mine into the database. Funny thing is it seems like the database is constantly updated by posters who I've never heard of.

Many posters on here aren't also members of SCN or StarTiger, so this is all they have, and if no one has updated a players successes in over a year despite multiple sends, the next person who goes to send doesn't know about fee changes, if that person is still signing etc. They way I see it, if you take an address from it, it only takes a couple seconds to give back.

I may be off track a bit but wasn't the whole idea of the database to eliminate the Multi Sports success thread. Ever since it was re-instituted many people are using that as the main resource for posting each success. Maybe it should be eliminated again.

I personally think they can co-exist but only with a little effort by each and every member utilizing these resources. I am guilty as the next guy for occasionally forgetting to post a success in the database but will make every effort to do so in the future.

Agreed, I try to update the TTMM with addresses of players that I get successes from that aren't currently in the database. That said I am as guilty as the next guy on not posting every success I get from players currently listed, mostly due to time. Also due to time constraints I have stopped all together putting in pending requests and only post successes.

I am encouraged daily by the successes of the members of this forum to keep up my hobby. The growth of the TTMM in the 18 months I have been a member has also been a motivating factor so I will do my best to record as much information as possible in the future.
