I wouldn't put any trust into Colon/Garcia again for next year and Banuelos/Betances probably aren't ready yet. Ivan Nova is a nice #3 starter. Burnett you're stuck with, same for Hughes. Gonna have to send those 2 out there. My suggestion, don't even look at CJ Wilson. Let Washington overpay for him.

If they could package Hughes and Colon for 1 number 2 pitcher I'd take it.I also don't think Nova can make a full season without an injury,so they actually need at least 2 more starters, garcia will give them innings but he isn't anything special.

please tell me you are kidding? because otherwise you aren't allowed to make trade proposals again haha. first off why would you try to trade Hughes now? His value is at an all time low. Give him one more chance, if he sucks then non tender him next year. And secondly, what team would give up a 1/2/or even a 3 starter for those guys???

Also, Dan, remember David Wells? He was shorter and fatter (proportionally) than CC, and pitched well at age 40...he started to decline after. I have no problems with CC pitching for 24 mil at age 37.

No I'm not kidding, haven't they given Hughes enough chances already. As far as who would trade,The Washington Senators come to mind,as they always look for cheap players, and a chance to dump salary.

No they havent given him enough chances. He is still only 25....its not like hes 30. They keep moving him from rotation to pen to rotation to pen. Give him a year, if hes awful then oh well, if not then great. We are talking about the a top 5 rated prospect in all of baseball a few years back. And the Nationals do not match up...they will not trade Strasburg or Jordan Zimmerman....and after that Hughes is better than anyone there...so why bother?

Zimmerman is a possibility, surely the Senators can't afford him and Strasburg.

Zimmerman is not a possibility. For a few reasons:

    a) he is cost controlled for probably the next 4 years through arbitration (he was a super 2), so maybe he would be available in 2-3 years, but not now.
    b) the Nationals have A TON of money, so they can keep him
    c) if you were the Nationals, would you trade him for Hughes plus? I sure as hell wouldn't. I wouldnt trade him for anything less than Montero (i wouldnt trade montero for him, just saying what they should ask for).

I am a HUGE phil hughes fan, but honestly if they traded him now, at best they would get a 21-24 yr old "prospect" who needs a change of scenery and a repertoire change, kind of like Hughes. So, I ask again, why bother??

Didn't know Zimmerman was cost controlled, thanks for that tidbit of information.Okay so they give Hughes a chance, how long do you let him pitch if he starts the season slowly, and if he starts off hot and raises his value would you trade him then.

Well if hes hot i would not trade him. Because they will need pitching lol. Teams won't jump at the chance to get him yet because they want to see him do it for the full year, or more.

I honestly would give him until the ASB. If he is AWFUL, then you put him in the bullpen for the 2nd half and see. Maybe he can be another Robertson type of pitcher. I think his main issue is not putting guys away. In '10 when he was probably one of the best pitchers in baseball in the first half he was striking guys out on 4-5 pitches, or getting them to weakly ground out or pop up. After the ASB and in to last year he just couldnt put guys away when it was 0-2, 1-2. They fouled off a tons of pitches. If he can either get that little extra giddy up on his fastball, or get that changeup working, I think he will be fine. He doesn't need a MAJOR change, I mean look at his 2nd half this past year. It was pretty much better than every starter not named CC and Nova. It was better than Garcia's....remember garcia was awful in september, he just woke up at the end. Hughes at worst is a #4-5 starter when healthy....i think he can easily be the #3-4 starter next year.

I just hope im right haha
