Have you ever sent an unsolicited donation $$$?

I'm not talking about guys who we all know sign for a fee (e.g. Ernie Banks, Rick Barry, etc).

I'm talking about guys who normally don't sign at all. Have you ever sent an unsolicited donation $$$ to these type of guys? What were your results?

You mean people like Sandy Koufax? I haven't tried your idea, but I know Sandy Koufax has almost NEVER signed, a few people get him, and dont share the address.

I am wondering if you send $50 cash to Michael Jordan, if he would sign. I doubt it though.

Yeah, that's what I mean. But maybe not so 'big name'. Well, I'm trying to see if people have any experience with this, and maybe if it works for semi-stars or what.

I did it with Dick Butkus. Write "Donation Enclose" visible on the front of the envelope somewhere, considering they'll have to open it to find the $$$.

I had 3 RTS's with him until I wrote in on the front. Butkus signed very sporadically and he seemed just to pick 1 to sign out of the 15 in his PO Box. So I wrote it on and sure enough it worked.

& It still depends on the player. For the most part, money isn't an issue for these guys. & At the same time, who wouldn't want to take 10 seconds of there day to make some cash for making someones day? It always ends up coming down to the player.

I got former dodger don Newcombe this way, sent 5$ and a pic I took with him a few yrs previously and got a response only 4 days later, that's the only time I've sent a unsolicited fee
