Canadiens Re-Sign D Alexei Emelin to 4-Year, $16.4M Contract
Great news for the Habs. Once The Tank returns from injury (and he's practicing already) the team's blueline will get a massive injection of physicality!
Habs fan and collector! Main PC's: Carey Price, Nick Suzuki, Cole Caufield, Juraj Slafkovsky, and of course...

Price seems a bit steep. Then again, there are worse players making that kind of money, so who knows any more lol.

Great news, without Emelin our D looks incredibly soft. The only big hits from our D this year have come from Murray over the last two games (with the exception of some big Tinordi hits in preseason) can't wait to get this guy back into the lineup, Bouillion or Diaz can watch from the press box.

If you look at his stats it is a massive overpayment. Then again a lot of players get paid more than they are worth. Subban's going to get $7 million per year on his next deal for 8 years based of this and other contracts for D men.

Stats don't tell the whole story. He's not out there to score goals and rack up the points. That's what PK and Markov do. He gets his keep from stopping goals and dropping the boom on people.

Yeah, but wasn't it Scotty Bowman who said "never pay big money to a defenseman who doesn't score"?

It depends on how you interpret "big money" in today's cap world where a lot of "decent" players are pulling down $5M contracts. LOL

Fair point.

Too much? Probably. Would Montreal lose him if they wouldn't pay that much? Also Probably.
It's the going rate for defenseman that fall in the "decent" to "good" range. Guys you can plug into your top two pairings, and don't worry about them.
