Question concerning 'Guaranteed' packs for sale on ebay

Just curious has anyone ever actually bought a "Guaranteed" hot pack off ebay? I understand how someone can claim an unopened pack might be a hot pack containing a GU due to the thickness of packs, but then some brands for example '2012 Rookies & Stars' sometimes contain thicker blank cards in their packs. And then there are seller on ebay guaranteeing a certain player... so I'm just wondering how these seller can guarantee certain players in an unopened pack.

But then why go through the trouble of resealing the pack? Why not sell the card as is?

Most game used or autographs of common people can go for as little as 99 cents on eBay. You can sell a sealed pack with a 99 cent game used or autograph for $10-$15. That's a pretty good profit margin.
