1987 Topps TTM Thread
Have decided to start and collect TTM from a base set- 1987 Topps is the winner. Really liked the look when i was younger and the 2012 Mini's just made me revive the old set. Went to the LCS and he actually carries packs of 1987 Topps...I thought it was a sign. The plan is to start rippin' wax and sending these guys out. I'm doing this in part for fun but also to get my two boys interested in older cards. So here goes nothing.
**update: My boys did not share my excitement but do think the cards are fun to look at.
Set Progress: 512/792=63%

Ok I got a little anxious and started to look up a few of my Favorite players of the 80's in the 1987 set. Like a Bolt of Lightening I was watching TV and Andre Dawson gets pulled out of the Ivy on a State Farm commercial. Also decided on Dale Murphy as i have his 1987 Topps and Donruss.
On 10/11 i decided to send out 2 more with Donations:
Andre Dawson #345- sent 2 cards 1987 Topps/1991 Topps with a Letter of Request and $20 Donation to The Andre Dawson Foundation. The foundation helps low income youth become involved in sports, great cause and i get a signature out of the deal. Mention my man crush on the 1988 Cubs team plus threw a Greatest commercial ever for the State Farm Kerry Wood Ivy commercial....I did not mention the 80's curl he had working but that was great!!
RECIEVED BOTH SIGNED
Dale Murphy #490 - sent 2 cards 1987 Topps/1987 Donruss with a letter of request and a $10 donation to Operation Kids. I felt the cause was worth the donation and if i land a couple autos out of the deal then it is a great deal. Mentioned in my letter about watching the old Braves games on TBS. Also mentioned that i thought he belongs in the Hall, which is true, before anyone who used steriods. I will say that Dale was a true Professional when he played in the 80's both on and off the field.
*If the 1987 Donruss comes back signed it will be for trade for 1987 TTM's.
Ken Dixon #528- Last minute add to the list as i sent this one with the other two. My radio station DJ used to play for the Orioles and tells lots of stories about playing for the Orioles. I sent LOR with a few stories the DJ is sharing. Also left contact info for the station.Last edited by J_A_S_Z; 10-22-2012 at 01:52 PM.

Had a little extra time and a few stamps to burn so i set up a few more to mail this weekend.
Dave Dravecky #470- sent to home with letter of request. Asked for one to be signed "Cancer Survivor: for a friend who is battling cancer right now. This is a true class act ball player who overcame alot. Anyone who can get there arm amputated and still be positive is amazing!! RETURNED SIGNED
Bill Wegman #179- sent to home with Letter of request. I know little about this player other than he was a Brewer.
John Tudor #110- sent to home with LOR. This guy was a beast in the late 80's for the Cardinals. Best game i have ever seen was his 10-inning dual with Doc Gooden. He got the win in a 10 inning complete game shut out!!!I hope this one comes back signed. RETURNED SIGNED
Bobby Bonilla #184- sent to home with LOR. This was one of my Fave players in the late 80's. This kid could flat out rake at the plate. Guy had off the field probs and a bad rep but was a beast with the lumber.
George Frazier #207- sent to home with LOR. Im from Oklahoma, he is from Oklahoma, thats about it.
Danny Darwin #157- sent to home with LOR. I love the nickname "Dr. Death"!! what are the odds of an inscription...fingers crossed. He had to play in the old Astrodome..that place was a dump, sorry Houston. The new stadium is a great venue, though. Recieved signed
And now we wait...........Last edited by J_A_S_Z; 11-07-2012 at 12:33 AM.

Neat, I'm sorta doing the same thing with a box of 1990 Proset football, sent about 9 letters so far w/ 1 success (Mark Kelso BUF) but I keep getting distracted and sending out TTM's to players from another era, different sports etc.
