Along with Adam Lind to the Red Sox for Mike Avilies. It was clear for the past year or so that Farrell wanted to go back to Boston and perhaps that was why the circus that happened in Toronto did take place. As far as the playerse being exchanged are concerned I personally think it's the precursor to other moves. Avilies is a serviceable major leaguer and an upgrade over Kelly Johnson at second base, but I think this means the Jays will try to shop Yunell Escobar for a pitcher.
As far as Farrell leaving is concerned it's not a big deal to me. He did an adequate job, but if he didn't want to be here, then he had to leave. Possible replacements from what I am hearing include Sandy Alomar, Dave Martinez and Brad Ausmus. Again it doesn't really matter to me who the manager is here b/c it seems for the past 20 years the Jays haven't had a guy that could be an incumbent guy such as the days of Cito and Bobby Cox.

View my store BetaI am sure whoever the Jays are unloading it is no one of significance. I like the addition of Avilies though.

View my store BetaI'd like to see Dave Martinez be given a chance. Joe Madden has raved about him for the past few years and pushed for him for the Jays job when Cito resigned. I'm hoping that he can bring the Madden philosophy of managing to T.O.
I hope that the BoSox know what they are doing with the hiring of Farrell. I couldn't get a good read on him with the Jays. I think to a certain degree he lost the clubhouse. I know that injuries played a major factor in the Jays past season. But I also thought that the Jays just gave up in September something which I haven't seen a Jays team do in a long while. And if Farrell was such a great pithcing coach in Boston, why the problems with Romero and the bullpen? Vizquel also contradicted him in public a few times. It is probably best for the Jays that they start afresh with a new manager.

View my store BetaFarrell's biggest attribute was his honesty with the media for the most part until the very end when some of the things he said came into question. He also seemed to get along well with his players, but as far as his handling of his pitchers and team as a whole, that can come into question. Boston being his dream job, he might be more motivated to do a better job, but who knows.
The Jays are just going in a spiral and I don't know what to think of this team anymore. My faith in A.A has taken a hit and I don't know if he knows what he's doing anymore. Too many lies about spending money, not getting good compensation for Farrell etc etc etc. The Jays need to make a big splash this year and I don't care what it takes. Last year was a complete wash b/c of all the injuries and A.A should do whatever it takes to make it a distant memory.

View my store BetaHeard bits and pieces of Farrell's press conference and I am upset to say the least. Also read a couple of articles and again this is just another slap in the face to the Jays organization. First off why do you need to meet the needs of anyone on the team especially the manager? As mentioned on the FAN 590, A.A should have kept Farrell around for the year and then leave him unemployed like any other franchise would have done. Farrell absolutely played the Jays and had them do everything he wanted for no reason at all.
Sure, he wanted to leave and Boston was his dream job, but where it is written that you need to be nice in baseball? It's all about the team and the team first and quite frankly A.A dropped the ball here significantly.

View my store BetaBecause he probably felt it was a stepping stone job?
Just my opinion, but I think you're off base. It seems like you think he wasn't trying, and as i'm sure you know, the only reason your team lost 90 games this year was because the entire team seemed to of gone on the DL at the same time. The Jays are a smart organization who know what they're doing, and Farrell is a good manager who tried to win games, but the roster he had the last 2 months of the season was a Triple-A team.

View my store BetaAgreed. I am not denying the fact that Farrel didn't try to win games and do his best in managing the team, but it seems that if his focus was on getting the job in Boston from the start of the year, why didn't he ask to be released or something so the Jays could already be set going into next year?
It has also been mentioned on the sports radio station here that NO other organization in pro sports would have done anything similar to what the Jays did here. Two rival teams trading a manager for a player? I believe it's only happened 4 times in major league history.
With that aside I hope the Jays bring in David Martinez for the job since if he's anything like Joe Maddon he is a can't miss manangerial prospect. I also like the personality that Mike Avilies has. I heard him on the radio earlier and he seems like a no nonsense, happy go lucky guy that knows where he came from and works hard every single day.

View my store BetaWell, Butterfiled and Lovullo have gone to join him in Boston, which pretty much ensures the Jays will go outside the organization for their next manager.
