This is the EXACT reason why you dont get it!
We are they didnt ask for that. What was asked for to rebuild the levies, road Power grid...etc. All the infrastructure ruined or destroyed by the storms. And why should that be done? It is for the greater good of Society - a real principle.
habs-It wasnt the aspect that FEMA be eliminated. it was that he suggested that it be privatized.
and Mitt go call 211 if you have problems with this (there is a joke in there)
Edit: If you want a good eye opener, to go New Orleans and the surrounding towns a great deal still have not been rebuilt and most likely will not. A good amount has been abandoned.Last edited by MadMan1978; 10-30-2012 at 10:19 AM.

FEMA is neither of those two options. That's the problem with the GOP mindset. It's all or nothing. They never see a middle ground compromise that benefits the country as a whole.

Nowhere did I say that the federal government should be involved at all in the relief efforts.

See above response. You are reading that into what I said. I didn't say there should be absolutely no federal government involvement in relief efforts.

I agree with the idea of a FEMA-type organization. Contracting that work out, though, would probably cut down on the waste and fraud.

So military is the job of central government, but FEMA isn't.
In other words, the government's job is to kill others and not help its own.
I'm glad I live in Canada.

Did everyone see all the destruction that Sandy left on the North East???
Gee, I wonder who will help them???
If Romney (Who will henceforth be considered as a DISGUSTING Human being by myself) would leave everyone from Maine to the Carolinas by themselves!!!
The GOP is a despicable party to even consider eliminating FEMA!
God, I feel sick....utterly SICK that these people might be in control of this country once more.

This is actually not true. The position is that (a) control of disaster response should be given to the states, who are the first responders and are in a much better position to assess need and priority than the federal government, and (b) any federal government involvement should be privatized. I think there needs to be some federal involvement to tackle interstate issues, but the overwhelming majority of the responsibility should lie with the states.
