Today in Nascar History November 24th:

Winners on this date: Bobby Allison.

November 24th, 1974: Bobby Allison pulls off an upset in the season finale at Ontario. Allison drives the underpowered Penske Matador which in all ways should not have beat its more powerful competition on the big Ontario track. In post race inspection, officials discover illegal roller tappets on the car, which made it much faster. The victory stands but the team is fined a then record 9,100 dollars for their cheating. Richard Petty wins his 5th career Cup Championship by 567.45 points. The points system in 1974 was a one off system used and was very complicated, hence the reason for the decimal points.

Winners on this date: Richard Petty.

November 27th, 1953: Nascar announces it will have both owner and driver points standings in 1954. This is put in due to the fact that some team owners complained that the drivers weren't splitting the points fund money fairly. Points money for each will now be equal.
