    Today in Nascar History November

Today in Nascar History November 1st:

Winners on this date: Buck Baker, Darel Dieringer, Darrell Waltrip, Davey Allison, Jeff Gordon, and Jamie McMurray.

November 1st, 1953: Herb Thomas finishes 14th in the season finale at Lakewood but wins the Nascar Grand National Championship for the 2nd time. Thomas is the 1st driver in Nascar history to score more than one title.

November 1st, 1992: Davey Allison wins at Phoenix and takes over the points lead in the process. Allison leads title rivals Bill Elliott and Alan Kulwicki by 30 and 40 points respectively heading into the season finale at Atlanta.

November 1st, 2009: A relatively tame race at Talladega occurs through most of the AMP Energy 500 due to Nascar's warning on bump drafting in the corners prior to race time. With 25 laps to go however the gloves came off and typical Talladega racing and subsequent carnage ensues. Jamie McMurray avoids the mess to end an 80 plus race winless drought and score the victory. Ryan Newman and Mark Martin both end up upside down during the final 25 laps in separate spectacular accidents in which both are unhurt. Points leader Jimmie Johnson finishes 6th and increases his points lead to over a full race. Johnson is well on his way to his 4th consecutive title and a sole place in Nascar's history books.

Fans and Nascar originally thought that Richard Petty and Dave Marcis were battling for the win, and they finished side by side at the checkers. Busch becomes the first driver to be sat down since Robby Gordon in 2007.
