How to black and white a photo with player in color

I was wondering if anyone knew how to make a background black and white with a player in color. Have a photo I really want to do that to. Any help would be great.

The way I have done it is to cut the player out and save the cut out. Re-open the original photo and remove color. Take the cut-out player and paste exactly back onto black and white photo. There may be easier ways but I haven't found one.

Photoshop. The way you are describing takes WAY TOO much effort.

I assumed NU was talking about doing that in Photoshop. That's what I use.

GIMP has been good for this function in my experience.
