    A piece of Neyland Stadium

    Shields-Watkins Field at Neyland Stadium was a turf playing surface from 1968-1993. In 1989, the turf checkerboards were added. After the last home game of the 1993 season, the turf was removed and sold. If my math is correct, the Tennessee Volunteers went 29-4 on these checkerboards.

    Thanks! The checkerboards now join the green playing surface piece. The green piece is roughly 4 inches by 4 inches.



    My uncle had framed checkerboards in his house. I always had to look at them and touch them when we would visit for the holidays. Here is an original brochure about them:
