View my store BetaMets sign David Wright to an 8 year $138 million deal
http://espn.go.com/new-york/mlb/stor...k-mets-history
Third baseman David Wright is the recipient of the largest contract in New York Mets history.
Wright has agreed to a new package that will keep him in a Mets uniform through at least 2020, a major league source told ESPNNewYork.com. The deal is worth slightly less than $140 million, the source added.
The sides agreed to the final financial terms in the early morning hours Friday, another source said.
Wright was due to be paid $16 million next season. The new deal should lock in Wright for seven additional years at approximately $122 million.
The total package will surpass the six-year, $137.5 million deal Johan Santana agreed to as a prerequisite of being traded to the Mets.
Wright is in Jacksonville, Fla., this weekend for the wedding of teammate Daniel Murphy. He is expected to take a physical early next week, after which the deal would become official.
Wright, who turns 30 on Dec. 20, is widely viewed as the face of the Mets' franchise and often has expressed a desire to spend his entire career with the organization. He grew up in Norfolk, Va., admiring Cal Ripken Jr. for his lifelong service to the Baltimore Orioles. Teammates R.A. Dickey and Jonathon Niese in recent days noted that Wright would like to be viewed similarly to how Chipper Jones is regarded by Atlanta Braves fans.
This season alone, Wright became the organization's all-time leader in hits, runs, walks and RBIs while being named to his sixth All-Star Game.
Mets officials hope Wright will become an ambassador for the organization after his playing career is over -- a role Hall of Fame pitcher Tom Seaver currently serves.Trade Bucket: Hidden Content

View my store BetaI think that this is a great deal for the Mets and David Wright. Wrights staying in one place pretty much for his career and making a ton of money and the Mets are ensuring a face of the franchise player
Looking for St Louis Rams autos and memorabilia

View my store BetaAs a Yankees fan I guess I'm not suppose to like David Wright but he seems like a good player on and off the field. The Mets over the years have given away millions to disasters like Mo Vaughn, KRod, Castillo, Jason Bay, etc so they should be able to find the money to give him what he wants. He isn't the same player as he was after he got hit in the head (and because of that ballpark) but making him a Met for life would probably be a good PR move for the team unless he just utterly tanks which I wouldn't assume would happen to him but with the luck of the Mets it is a possibility.

View my store BetaHe is the Jeter/Pedroia of that team. This was only necessary. Although, it looks like he will have to give up hope of ever getting a ring.

View my store BetaAwesome. One of the great things about a 1975 Brooks Robinson Topps card is looking on the back, and seeing 20 straight lines of ORIOLES on the stats. Hopefully in 2021, we can say the same thing about David Wright.
