I figured the vintage traders would know best.

HELP!!!!! I did buy this card :(

What I thought was strange was the light brown circle on the back side of the card. It is located on the front of the skate, similar to the listed "professional fake." There is also another faint line in the middle of the skate after the "Guy Lafleur."

Which card did you buy? One of the Fakes? Typically the originals won't have such a white back, it's a slightly darker color and OPC had horrible knives and hardly any of their 79-80's had sharp edges. I would say it's a 99.9% chance that the auction is for a fake. They are also selling reprinted copies of a "Signed" Wayne Gretzky scoresheet, which the listing should have a reprint or something in the title so people aren't fooled by this, the only thing is at the bottom where it says copy where it won't be noticed if people don't read the full description. The seller has 6 or more negative feedback, so I would be weary of purchasing from them. Good luck.

I don't understand, the posted link is for a current active auction? Not sure what you mean by you got that card.
Who knows though, it may be the best known OPC Gretzky and you got a heck of a deal. Only advice I would give is send it to a grading company for the 1 day turn around and if it doesn't pass grading, file a claim with eBay that day.
That card is one of a couple I won't buy on eBay like the M. Jordan.
    Good luck

Looks like a fake to me. eBay usually removes these listings because there is so many fakes out there. Looks to good to be true it probably is.

She invoiced me through paypal and never took the card down. I asked for a refund and got it back. I am pretty sure its a fake too.

The card looks pretty good. It has the yellow dot on the shoulder. The Oiler logo in the bottom right is OC. If it is a fake it is a pretty good one, on the scan. The only thing that makes me worried is the centering and borders appear off, somehow. Selling price is pretty accurate for a card that MIGHT grade out at an 8. Interesting, curious if they would send the card in for grading.

Why on earth would you bid on an unslabbed Gretzky rookie and after you win it decide that it doesn't look real and ask for your money back? The time to check it out is before you bid. Buyers like you should be banned.

    one way to tell.

is look at the copyright line.

when they try to reproduce a card. the ink fills in on small print.

    also get a magnifier like 10 x

get same year card you know is original. look at pixels.

copies don't carry detail. copies usually are grainy!

thickness and texture of paper. get a original from the set any card. rub them and then switch hands. feel the texture..
copies usually won't have same paper.

    good luck.

I WANT TO TRADE AND SELL ONLY
