I’ll try to be brief in my summary. I basically took the top 5 seasons of each player and, through a series of algorithms, came up with all-time rosters for each team. The general rules I used to come up with the rosters were:
*I made a couple special “1800s” rosters. For the most part, the seasons I used were from the 20th and 21st centuries. Throughout the process, I made exceptions where it made sense, but did a decent job at not being too manual.
Rules for constructing rosters:
1a.) A player had to appear for the team for at least 5 seasons (at least ? of a season and at least 3 “full” seasons)
1b.) The newer a franchise is, the less likely a player played at least 5 seasons with that team.
1c.) A player’s first team of eligibility was the one in which he played the most games/plate appearances/innings pitched/years...it just depended. Some players, such as Roberto Alomar and Gary Sheffield, changed teams so often, that I had to make manual decisions. Other players, such as Carlton Fisk, may have played for one team longer than another (White Sox over Red Sox), but “belonged” (in my opinion) to the team with less time.
1d.) A player could only appear once on the entire roster. Carlton Fisk is arguably the best catcher in White Sox AND Red Sox history, but he only appears on the Red Sox roster.
1e.) A lot of the time performance helped decide which team to go to in case of even time with teams. Other times, a player could be used on many different teams at different positions. B.J. Surhoff is a good example of this. He had 9 seasons (S), 1,102 games, (G) 4,304 Plate Appearances (PA) with Milwaukee. He had 8 S, 1,001 G, 4,043 PA in Baltimore. He had much better stats with Baltimore. On Milwaukee, he was a low in the order Catcher. In Baltimore, he became a power hitting OF. However, Baltimore has tons of options for power hitting OF and Milwaukee doesn’t have a lot of great catchers in their history. So I used a balanced stat calculation for him to be Milwaukee’s catcher. Hopefully that makes sense.
1f.) Most of the time, longevity with a team is what connected a player to his team; however, in certain cases, it made more sense to move the player to a different team. For example, Eddie Collins had 12 S, 1,670, and 7,409 PA with the White Sox. He had 13 S, 1,156 G, and 4,632 PA with the A’s. His performance was more or less even with each team. However, the A’s lack left side infield in their history. The White Sox have a plethora of options (Nellie Fox, Luis Aparicio, Luke Appling, Robin Ventura, etc.). So it made more sense to move him to the A’s.
1g.) Depending on the position, a player had to appear in at least 30 games at a position to be eligible for that position. For the most part, players aren’t playing out of position, but certain exceptions were made where it made sense (Luke Appling @ 3B, for example).
1h.)For pitchers, it was much more difficult. It depended on role, which varies greatly depending on the era. Starters, relievers, fireman, closers, hybrids, etc. have changed throughout history. A lot of the time, it just took common sense to know where to put the player.
I realize this will be a lifelong quest of mine, but I think that was part of the appeal to me. One day I want to build a pseudo-museum type room in my house, displaying each "all-time" team with information about the team, players, and some stats. I think this levels me up from giant nerd to outer space nerd. LOL. I’ve set 2 batting orders for almost each team. I will set 2 batting orders for the teams with “TBD”; I’m still sorting them out. Each batting order has a DH spot.
The pitchers...I haven’t decided if I’m going to set rotations or just have a roster. I’m not sure. I did try to do a balance of starters, relievers, and Lefty/Righty balance. Some teams are just simply weak in certain areas and I had to just go with stats, talents, and/or accomplishments. Most of the time it was my statistical algorithms that determined if a player should be on a roster, but sometimes I did go with “significance”, like Bobby Thomson, Johnny Podres, etc.
Anyway, I could go on and on and on about how I constructed the rosters. I’m still finalizing some of them and I envision them changing over time (Mike Trout, Bryce Harper, etc.). At the bottom is a big list of guys that I want to place somewhere, but am working on where. I haven’t decided how many “AL”, “NL”, and “MLB” teams I will have, so many of them may be “eliminated”.
My goal is to collect 1 "item" of each players below. Most of the time I want a card, simply because they are smaller. There are something like 700 players in this project, so item size is important. Ideally I would get an auto, but that's
gonna be extremely difficult, if not impossible, to get an auto for each player. GU comes next, then just a normal card or picture.
My criteria for each item is rather vague. I want the item to feature the player in the uniform of his team...but it basically comes down to the aesthetic appeal of the item.
I am always open to new cards if you think that I'd be interested. The priority is:
1.) Auto
2.) GU
3.) Vintage card
4.) Other
The item must feature the player in the team listed below. Also, no multi-player cards.
I realize this will be a lifelong quest of mine, but I think that was part of the appeal to me. One day I want to build a pseudo-museum type room in my house, displaying each "all-time" team with information about the team. I think this levels me up from giant nerd to outer space nerd.

View my store BetaThis does seem like a lifelong quest lol. I wish you luck with it. Are the ones in bold the players you have? I can definately help you out with some of these, including the auto department. But I guess this new quest removes a lot of items FT in your picasa?

View my store BetaThank you. Yeah, the bold are SOME of the players that I have. I'm too lazy to go through and do ALL the links. But it's also because sometimes I am looking to "upgrade" and sometimes I'm looking to "downgrade". Like the Marquee 5/5 Logo auto McCutchen I have. I want to downgrade to something more simple. And with a bigger picture of him. In other cases, I only have an insert or Relic where an auto is available and I'm looking to "upgrade". Does that make sense? I know it's kind of vague.
And no, it doesn't remove a lot of the items from my Picasa. The only items NFT are in my PC, which, as you can see, is very small right now. LOL. I'm at least open to hearing what you're interested in. The only requirement is that the player is in the uniform of the team that he's on (on my All-time roster). Which items were you interested in? LMK and we will work something out. :)
