Mother and stepfather beat to death her seven-year-old son for not reading his Bible
A seven-year-old boy has been beaten to death by his stepfather and mother for not reading his Bible, authorities said.
Markiece Palmer, 34, and Dina Palmer, 27, were charged with murder last week along with other counts of child abuse and neglect.
Roderick Arrington, seven, was taken to University Medical Center in Las Vegas last Thursday unconscious and with brain swelling. He died the following day.
Second-grader Roderick recently moved to Las Vegas from Illinois, where he had been living with his father and grandmother.
Markiece Palmer told police he had spanked the child for lying about reading a Bible verse and failing to finish his homework. He said the boy then slipped and hit his head.
The arrest report details extensive injuries, including bruising over Roderick's whole body and open wounds on his buttocks, allegedly from being beaten with a belt. The police report also revealed that Roderick was violently shaken by his stepfather.
When the little boy was unresponsive last week, Dina Palmer called her pastor who advised her to dial 911.
Dina Palmer told police that she had repeatedly hit her son with a paddle and belt last month, what she described as 'whoopins'.
The couple admitted to police that they had regularly beaten the child for not reading the Bible or finishing his homework.Trade Bucket: Hidden Content

Just once, I wish these stories were not so intentionally biased. And just once I wish that people investigated before jumping to conclusions.
On November 27th he was spanking over the Bible verse.
On November 28th he was spanked for not doing his homework and apparently got angry which led to his stepfather shaking him and him "falling" and hitting his head.
So to clarify, this child was not beaten to death for not reading his Bible. This child was beaten to death because he had ignorant, abusive, unloving parents.
Markiece Palmer told police he and Dina Palmer spanked the child November 27th, because he lied about reading a Bible verse. Markiece Palmer said Roderick was spanked again the next day for not finishing his homework. In the arrest report, Markiece Palmer said the boy balled up his fists and "ran at him". That resulted in Markiece shaking the child. He also told police Roderick slipped at the bottom of the stairs and hit his head on a table and the floor.
Last Tuesday, Markiece Palmer admitted to police that he spanked Arrington because he allegedly lied about reading a chapter in the Bible. Dina Palmer struck Arrington on his buttocks with both a belt and her hand, the report said.
The next day at about 9:30 p.m., Markiece Palmer found Arrington asleep in bed without finishing his homework. Arrington allegedly lied about doing his homework, so Palmer said he struck Arrington on his buttocks with his belt, the report said.
Arrington then allegedly ran up to his stepfather with balled fists. Markiece Palmer — who is 6 feet, 1 inch tall and weighs 150 pounds — then grabbed the boy by his arms and shook him hard. Dina Palmer said she also struck Arrington with a belt and a paddle two to three times, the report said.
During the altercation, Arrington reportedly ran down the stairs and fell, hitting his forehead on a table, Markiece Palmer told police. The stepfather then told Arrington to take a bath, after which he put cocoa butter on the open wounds on the boy's buttocks, the report said.
It isn't that hard to investigate these things a little further instead of just buying into the first anti-Christian spin that you read because it fufills your bigoted need to hate people because of their religion.

I'm with Duane. The very most you can really say is he was beaten to death for either not doing his homework or lying about it. Saying he was beaten to death is like me drinking a beer on Tuesday, getting hit by a car Wednesday and then you claiming alcohol killed me. The Bible part shouldn't even be in the story unless they start listing off everything the kid was ever hit for. Also, I have heard lots of stories that ended with "he slipped and hit his head" that turned put to be false, I get that feeling from this. I'd say kill these two, but death is too good."He's gone crazy," "You have to snap out of it," "Take your meds," or, "Don't be such a downer" serve only to mock, belittle, and make light of mental illness. Such phrases only continue the negative stigma and keep those who suffer from getting help. If these phrases, or phrases like them, are part of your at-hand vocabulary, you are part of the problem. #STOPtheStigma

Either way, using this to condemn all Christians is wrong. When talking about Muslim terrorist we have to be considerate of the good Muslims and clarify that we mean Muslim extremist for fear that we offend the good ones, but when talking about some nutjobs killing their kid it is OK to classify all conservative Christians into the same category? Double standard.

It's merely condemning all christians to go to this extreme for their children (and possibly others) to believe in god as much as they do. I don't see anywhere where it said that spanking your kid for not reading the bible or believing in a god is a common practice among christian faithful
