Making an inventory of my collection

    Hey guys,

Being the bored MBA student that I am on winter break, I have recently come up with the idea to inventory my collection. I came up with the idea of putting everything into penny sleeves/toploaders and then putting a bar code on the back and scanning everything in and keeping track of it via excel. This way I can track my collection much easier and I could even store data like BV and other things in there. Ideally, I would have this hooked up to my iPhone as well so i can just scan everything through my phone. Has anyone ever done/attempted anything like this?? Do you guys think this would even be feasible?? Any input is appreciated

It's still data entry. That is time consuming.

I actually had one new Mong on here in September tell me that I should input the 15,000 cards I have for trade. I asked him in who's lifetime would anyone find the time to do such a thing, considering I move over 1,000 cards per year as singles, and also considering that I came from a place of half a million cards.

If you have a 400 card collection, the bar code would be ideal. But if you are in the business of moving inventories as I am, only my brain can handle all the activity. I would not live long enough for all the data entry that is required.

I do not keep a Trade List, because I would have to be 8 hours per day doing Data Entry and no time to sell, trade or live my life. I spend far too much time as it is in this racket.

You could save yourself a ton of time and just use the SCF Inventory System.

    Data Entry

Who has time to input over 15,000 cards? None of us do. I spend 4 hours per day searching for cards for other buyers and traders. There is no possible way.

This month alone I have transacted and moved over 600 cards, 375 of them as singles. I cannot devote 8 hours per day to Data Entry alone.

Besides.... Who could be bothered by going through about 400 SCF pages just to look for one card if I was rude enough to say, "Look at my SCF Inventory"

It's far easier to look for somebody.

What people forget is that when they are asking if you have a card, it's up to you to provide that service to them, you cannot expect them to sift through your 15,000 plus card inventory that might take them hours. Not good business.

Ya it would take me a long time, but I don't have that big of a collection, but I think it would be a great asset to have everything like that. The excel would be just an addition, the main purpose of it would be the barcode/QR code scanning. This would allow me when I'm out to at a show or anywhere else to just scan the card and information about it such as the BV would instantly pop up. Would take forever, but I think it would be a cool wrinkle
