Why Maple Leafs GM Brian Burke deserved to be fired
Whether it was because of his personality or his performance, Brian Burke deserved to be fired. Itís as simple as that, really.
Letís start with personality. The Leafs are under new ownership, being guided now by Canadaís two most powerful media conglomerates. If one or both did not like Burke's style or clashed with him or found him to not be able to play with others, then they were fully within their rights to let him go. As Leafs executive Tom Anselmi pointed out, the relationship between ownership and the GM has to be smooth and in this case it clearly was not. The timing is bizarre to say the least, but the fact they did it is not.

It was a cold and spineless move by the new 6-man panel, simple as that, and makes me frustrated as a fan of the team that ownership and management is still an embarrassment, decade after decade, after decade, no matter who is in charge. Briank Burke was a good hockey man who made one questionable move after inheriting a shipwreck of a disaster of a team... and he was fired because one pretentious, stuck-up new owner didn't like him using a swear word during a board meeting. That's what this was.I Need These Set Killers:
