[514Cards]

Hey guys, so im working on my set for 11/12 CUP RC's im at just over 50% and im starting to run low on cash. SO my question is do you guys think I should hold onto these cards for a few years and hope to turn a profit or sell them while its hot? If these rookies do turn out good will the value really go up more than they are selling now? Opinions needed!!!

Modern sets very rarely appreciate in value. Cards always cool off as people move on to chase the next big thing. The 2011-12 rookie class is one of the weakest in recent memory - there may be a hidden gem or two in there but at present once you get past RNH values drop off pretty severely.

This sucks lol cuz ive spent a pretty penny on the site, should I sell once NHL season starts maybe I could turn a profit

Like RGM81 said, prices are usually the highest when the sets first hit the market b/c collectors are putting together sets or chasing their favorite players. Collecting cards is a great hobby, but it's not very lucrative as an investment strategy.

I personally know one guy who consistently makes money in the hobby. He runs his own brick-and-mortar memorabilia store and sells online as well. When I told him I was thinking of leaving my job to try making a living selling cards, his advice was to work in his shop on weekends for at least a year and see what is really involved. It didn't take me long to see that he was successful because he's an experienced, educated businessman as well as an experienced and well-connected memorabilia collector. I found it too risky and the learning curve for me was too steep to go for it.

I'd go on ebay and see what kind of prices the cards you want to sell have been selling for recently. That should give you a rough idea of how much money you may get if you decide to sell now.

If it was me, I would hold onto the cards and then when you have the cash start picking up more to complete the set. You usually never make your money back in this hobby. However, as people have already said, the prices for the rest should drop. You could complete the set for personal hobby collecting fun!
