About Darren Styles and Sports Card Direct

A hockey card for the hometown team first got Sports Card Direct founder, Darren Styles, interested in collecting cards at age 10. It soon became one of his favorite childhood pastimes. He will never forget the day his dad came home with 48 packs of cards and how he sat in the living room with his brother like it was Christmas morning. Darren still vividly remembers the excitement he felt each time he peeled back another wrapper and flipped it over to see who was inside. He also would find himself peering over his brother's shoulder to catch a glimpse of a card that caught his eye.

Over the years, Darren realized that this type of excitement is not just reserved for childhood. His passion for sports cards was ignited when he came across his carefully preserved collection from his youth. This rediscovered enthusiasm is the reason why Darren started Sports Card Direct. As an avid collector, he has spent countless hours on various sports card sites. Darren not only wanted to make it easier to buy and sell sports cards, he also wanted to create a community to bring collectors together.

Sports Card Direct aims to give collectors a trustworthy site that gives them the tools they need to foster their passion, as well as to bring back the fun and excitement of the backyard exchanges.

Industry Involvement: Darren has been actively involved in the sports trading card market as not only a collector, but also in the graded card community at PSA. He has detailed knowledge of hockey and football cards and has specialized in OPC hockey cards of the 1970s and 1980s.

Recent Industry Moves: Darren has expanded into the new modern trading card arena and developed a sports card selling business with his involvement in box breaks. It gives him the opportunity to buy many cards at once and for a moment relive his 10-year-old memories of opening packs in hopes of finding “gold.”
