Canucks Solidify Blueline for the Future
Last night the Canucks decided to spend some money and resigned defenseman Alex Edler for another 6 years at $5million/yr.
As a Canucks fan, I'm pretty happy about this. Edler is going to be a premier Dman before he retires.

Edler is a lot like Mattias Ohlund, just with more offensive upside. We know how good Ohlund was.
I was ecstatic to hear about this signing.

Look at the cap hits on their defense next season:
Edler $5million
Bieksa $4.6million
Garrison $4.6million
Hamhuis $4.5million
Ballard $4.2million
That's $22.9million on 5 defensemen. One has to think Ballard will be bought out at the end of this season when Malholtra, Raymond, Higgins, Lapierre, Ebbett, Vandermeet, Volpatti, Alberts and Barker become UFAs and Tanev and Weise become RFAs
