It's beyond policy all the way to mindset. Just as an example, 3 no names from our Conservative party sent a letter the the RCMP asking them to investigate several abortions as homicide. Our Conservative Prime Minister, Stephen Harper (incredibly smart but not to be trusted) stood up and said (paraphrasing here) "Whether you agree with it or not we can all agree that abortion is legal in this country and we're not reopening that"
Basically, our "conservatives" would love to see abortion outlawed, and some even picket at hospitals that perform them, etc. but at the end of the day, it's been deemed legal and it's no longer an issue at any official level. Right now dour biggest fight is between economy and environment and involves massive amounts of pipeline going through the country. Our second biggest fight at the moment is between the First Nations and the government. Now look at your fights. You're still fighting over abortion. You're still fighting over gay marriage (legal here with little fight).
The mindset is more left, or rather, our more center and the US is on the right. Our policies don't come into the equation because that's the result of our mindset.

Someone who has an opposing view is not bashing. Bashing is saying something like "Obama is ruining the country" and not backing it up. Bashing is posting pictures of YOUR President as a Socialist, a Fascist, a Muslim.
You want bashing? Read what the conservatives of this board say to liberals.
You guys who think it only goes one way make me laugh. Do you only read half books too?

It's President Obama. Too many conservatives aren't willing to admit that. They disrespect the office of President because they don't like the man who was elected. Yes, liberals did the same with Bush. You're just as bad as them (I'm talking groups). Congratulations.
If you only see bashing from one side, you're only reading half. It comes from all sides here. To say otherwise is ignorant, naive or both. I've never once said only conservatives bash. I've seen conservative after conservative try to claim only liberals bash, though, and that's a flat out lie.

I never asked you to respect the man. Hate the man, I don't care. Respect where he is and the office he holds though. It is your opinion he is ruining the country and while that is your right, it doesn't give you the right to disrespect the Presidency and, unfortunately for you, he holds it.
A true patriot can hate the man and still respect the office he holds. Criticize him all you want. It's good to criticize our elected officials, far to few just complain and think they're criticizing, or flat out disrespect and think they're making a point. The point you're making is "I don't respect the Presidency" not "I don't respect the man who is President."

There's also the matter of simply showing a little class, grace and dignity.
