If they're paid by the mile, that's still a full days mileage.
I agree this won't do much. They should have done it years ago. Like Canada.

Here in Co they are paid by mile, at least at the PO my parents work for. But even if it is hourly it won't cut the hours by too much, still will sort, still will deliver packages. I do assume that they will make it hourly on Saturday either way.

What I'm told is that it is hourly unless you run a route everywhere. Not sure if that's true everywhere though.

I don't follow. Why would they say they won't deliver on Saturday but still deliver. Also it's not just about employee pay the cost of running trucks to residential areas is probably where a lot of the savings will come from. and yes the savings isn't much compared to what they are losing a year but you have to start somewhere.

No for to door on Saturday. Basically, just the carriers are cut for one day a week and the rest of the operation continues is was.

I don't remember Canada ever having any Saturday mail delivery. I could look it up, but I can't be arsed to do it.

To me the right step for them to take is cutting Saturday delivery completely, but I guess it is a step, just stinks for the mail deliverers who have no clue how they will be paid on Saturdays.
