I don't think it's anything I do, really. I make sure to have as much light in the room as possible, and leave the lid off. Then it's just the scanner doing the work, and a real quick tweak in Photoshop. The Canoscan I have has a CCD scanning element (important for scanning anything where depth is required), and a cold cathode fluorescent lamp. Anything I throw in to scan, even slabbed, comes out beautifully. All I do in Photoshop is size the image, and then auto correct the color. Occasionally (very rarely), I'll play a bit with color saturation or levels/curves. But what you see is pretty much the product of a good scanner.

I went a little nuts this week, and got a bunch of really nice cards on Friday and Saturday!
Two nice Bowman Chrome ungraded cards, one that I've been wanting for a while:
2005 Bowman Chrome Matt Kemp
2012 Bowman Chrome Scooter Gennett refractor #30/500
And three graded cards...
2011 Bowman Chrome Matt Moore BGS 9.5/10
2009 Bowman Chrome Zack Wheeler BGS 9.5/10
2010 Bowman Chrome Shelby Miller BGS
I've been looking for that Miller for six months. There's only 8 Beckett graded 9.5 Miller base autos, and of those, that's one of only 2 with all 9.5 or higher subs. I'm not happy with the slabs though, all scratched up. I'm going to have to have them redone.
The Kemp is really beautiful in person. Thinking about getting it graded.

You can try plastic polish on the slabs if the scratches aren't too deep, it works pretty well. Any auto parts store will carry it.
It's cheaper and a lot less hassle than having the re-slabbed.

Thank you, Deckard7. I'll try that.
Between shipping both ways, insurance both ways, and the cost to crack and re-slab the cards, it can get up there in cost.

Wouldn't you know it, my friends on Net54 had already discussed this:
I am going to buy some Novus #2, and I'll report back when done.
