    Omg... duh... autograph... thanks! :p
So do you guys think the Beckett 9 is a pretty decent gift for a huge Yzerman/red wings fan? (Or maybe i'm speaking to the choir in this forum. .lol)

If he doesn't already have a Yzerman RC then OH YES. And if he does, a graded copy is a great display piece. YOU are a super nice gal for indulging him :)

He doesn't have one, no. He told me he had the opportunity to buy one back when he was in college, but needed the money for beer so never got it... lol. I was gonna get him a case of beer as a joke... and put the card in it :-)

I just wish I could get a higher graded card... I could get a 10 but from a crappy grader. Not up for paying 1500 for a Becketts 10!

Ummmmm yeah, "Mint" is definitely good enough for a pre-1989 card. I have a 8.5 Ken Dryden RC that cost me plenty, no way can I justify $4000-5000 for a 10 :D

9 is more than fine for an Yzerman. If it was for me, I'd probably go with the Beckett 9, though the autograph is kind of tempting. The PSA/DNA would mean it's an authenticated autograph, right? (looking for confirmation from someone like sluggo here) If so, that is pretty cool.
I don't think you can go wrong with either one though, honestly.

Without starting a whole pile of trouble I'd pick the PSA. For two reasons.

    1. PSA doesn't grade trimmed cards.

    2. PSA holds better value for vintage cards.

Look at the completed sales on ebay.

    PSA 9 goes for $180-240.

    BGS 9 goes for $100-160.

The majority of the card collecting community prefer PSA for vintage. For Modern cards it is the opposite bgs is preferred.

Yeah the PSA will likely cost me a bit more.

I *highly* doubt he'd ever sell it though, so not sure how much the resale value really matters... I just dont wanna buy a crap card.

The PSA/DNA autographed card is authenticated.

Do you mean, "PSA doesn't grade trimmed cards any more"? I thought that's exactly what the biggest trim scandal ever was about:

Thanks everyone again! I bought the Beckett 9. Hope to hell he likes it. Is there anything I should look for once I receive it to make sure its ok? I assume it will have some manner of seal on it?

He'll love it, he'll be looking at it and then you and then it and then you all googly-eyed, trust me :D

The slab the card comes in is sealed tight, you need a hammer to bust it out
