You can't be against something and for it at the same time. That is oxymoronic. We have debated this before so you know what I am going to say. You can't support the right to choose abortion, yet be against abortion. It is logically impossible.

How about this (using your logic). I am not anti-abortion, I am just anti-choice...I don't have a problem with abortions, I just oppose people being able to do it. See, it's the same thing.

That's a fallacy from the all-or-nothing attitude. It's like saying intelligent design is impossible because it involves both God and science.

It's like saying it's impossible to be against pornography personally and not say anything publicly about it.

I'm for freedom. I'm for choice. I'm against abortion, but I don't seek to force MY ideas, choices and decisions on others who are freely and legally living their lives the way anti-freedom-and choicers seek to control everyone in the name of freedom. Thing is, this has been decided by SCOTUS and is a freedom in the US. I'm not against the fight, I'm against spreading a lie so far the good people who put together the dictionary ignore the meanings of the elements of a word and instead use political rhetoric as definition. No matter how you slice it, that prefix on that word should not, in any way, have that meaning.

Veg, I know you're not really anti choice, because you seek to keep a man's choice to be irresponsible while forcing a woman to "close her legs or deal with it" so you're anti woman, not anti choice.
Actually, you're pro choice...so long as everyone makes the same choice you would.

Duane, you can be against anything for YOURSELF and be for it for OTHERS. I am against smoking, but I am not against smoking being legal for others. How hard is that to understand?

Incidentally, my being a smoker doesn't necessarily equate me being "pro smoking".

Ya'll are funny. I believe that everyone has to make choices with what they do with their own lives. I belive in everyone being able to choose even if what they are chosing is not in their best intrest. (drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, meat) However I draw the line when your choices infringe on the rights of someone else. Taking someone elses life that is not your own weather it be aborting an unborn child or killing a guy on the streets because he stepped on your tennis shoes are infringement of someone else's right to life, liberty and the prusuit of happiness. Why is this such a difficult concept for some people to grasp?

Veggie, that's a pretty reasonable position to have. However, it has NOTHING to do with the concept we are talking about. Would you call yourself PRO-SMOKING if you were against laws prohibiting people from smoking? Would you call yourself PRO-GAY if you are against laws banning homosexuality? A yes or no answer will do.

Habs you are comparing apples to oranges. Being gay and smoking (as long as no one else is around) only affects the people involved in the act so I really don't give a damn. I personally would never engage in smoking or a homosexual act but if someone else does that is their problem not mines. Aborting a child takes that childs right to life away from him. So to answer your question I couldn't give a damn if someone smokes or is gay. Not my problem.

Since you refuse to answer. I guess we can call you a pro-smoker then.
