I have to say, as a heavy seller/shipper... I've seen an increase in packages I've sent out gone 'missing' the last 2 months. No geographic linkages, (ie. not just to Quebec or the USA etc) but there has been an increase. By increase I mean 1 per 2000 packages or so to about 1 per 800 packages the last little bit.
As a buyer, I've had 1 package not show up, the seller issued a refund and 4 months later it showed... post date was accurate, just got held at customs from the USA.Last edited by rydlar99; 04-09-2013 at 11:19 AM.

Due To Rules Violations
I don't use Ebay... But have been buying and selling sportscards online for 12 years or so... the "scamming" seemed to happen more often in the earlier years... I've had more problems recently with cards arriving damaged due to poor packaging methods than anything else...

I've been buying online for about 10 years now and I'm going to guess it averages out to about once a year, or about 1/200.

Bubble envelopes into the USA DO NOT require a Customs Form. Stop using it and your envelopes will arrive quicker and without hassle.

I'd have to say about 5-6 times in almost 2,000 transactions between 4 hobby sites and ebay.

To the best of my memory right now, I can recall 3 instances where a card did not show up, and I, as the buyer, had to send as polite a message as possible to the seller explaining that that was the case, knowing that they would probably assume I was just a scam artist. It sucks.
The first time it happened, a mid-end auto'd card I can't remember right now was at the 5 week and hadn't arrived mark. I live in the Toronto area, and the card was coming from Quebec. These shipments usually take under a week, so I thought over a month was more than fair for how long I was willing to wait. The seller did send a refund within a few days (without my having to go through Ebay to get my money back), so that wasn't the issue, I just felt kind of badly. I told the seller that if the card showed up that I would re-send payment (as a seller, how many times has a buyer fed you that line??). Anyhow, 3 MONTHS later, and the card arrives in the mail with a greeting card, explaining that the card had somehow been stuck to another parcel that was Holland-bound. I guess the nice family who's son/daughter is living in the Netherlands recognized what had happened and sent the card back out to me. I sent the seller his payment as promised, and he was thrilled. Talk about a happy ending.. but a lesson learned that anything really is possible. Holland... the card was supposed to go from Montreal to Toronto... and it ended up in Holland. ... lol
The other two times that items didn't arrive were both more recently (back in the fall), and both were for complete sets that I had purchased from a seller in the Vancouver area (through Ebay). The sets were a 1991-92 Upper Deck master set (with all insert sets) and a 1993-94 Donruss base set with a few of the insert sets. Both sets were purchased while on sale (fairly high sale reduction too, as much as 40% off if I'm not mistaken) after I had been watching them for several weeks, even more than a month by that point. The other interesting thing is that I didn't buy the sets at the same time. There was about a week and a half interval in between my buying each set, so the fact that neither showed up makes me very suspicious. The seller obviously maintains that they were sent, but I have my feelings about whether or not they were, or whether someone was stealing this guy's outgoing mail. I couldn't get a read on him one way or another, so it wouldn't be fair to make any conclusions about what really happened. Either way, I was refunded for the sets, so I didn't lose out on anything, except that I still would rather have the sets than the money that was returned. :P
Those are the only two instances where, as a buyer on Ebay, the items actually didn't arrive.Last edited by ravens_creed; 04-09-2013 at 08:40 PM.

I have had three that I can remember,
one never showed up and I was promptly refunded,
the second the seller sent me the wrong card and sent my card to somewhere in europe, we ended up just sending each other the cards and the seller sent me money for postage to cover it, so it all worked out
the third was a secret santa where i never got anything, thus the reason I will never do one again
