Is nothing sacred? Hasn't the card in this article been PSA graded already?

I saw this too. I don't know how anyone could bring themselves to cut a T206, and the Wagner no less. It would literally bring be pain to trim that

Yep, PSA graded the card, but apparently a lot of tobacco cards were of varying width and could be trimmed without giving it away that they had been. People suspected the The T206 Wagner had been trimmed because the edges are so clean (as in, not dirty) -- not what you'd expect of a card that old.
Unfortunately the article doesn't show a picture of the $2.8M Wagner they're referring to, it is in remarkably good shape. Now we know why.
Bill Mastro is a scumbag.

I could've sworn that I had read somewhere that the one he trimmed was actually found as part of an uncut sheet. I had read that quite a while ago.

Here's an interesting video segment from ESPN about that particular Honus Wagner card. You can see from the pics how nice it is (graded PSA 8).
It even interviews Bill Mastro, who states something to the effect, "The card never looked trimmed to me."

Yeah, he trimmed off the sides of the card to make them sharper and get rid of the small dings and dirt that were there.

I bet his hands were trembling as he trimmed it, lord... I can't imagine.

I do remember hearing from time to time that he was suspected of trimming it, but this is yet another reminder that grading and authentication in the sports memorabilia business is still subjective and creeping closer in integrity to a plain statement of "I saw him sign it", "this card is mint", and "of course he wore it, look at the dirt stain".

Ya what a misleading picture. The one this article is referring to is the PSA 8 example. It just really goes to show the integrity has dropped off completely from PSA. As far as I'm concerned, I'll take my chances with SGC for vintage stuff.
