If you don't like one set of rules, create another. It makes you feel better about you particular sins.

    That's modern Christianity.

I would not call anything involving christianity - Modern. Thats slander against a fine word.

The reason christians move the net, the stadium and change the rules of the game, they come by it naturally. Paul did the same thing to Gentiles. He created a Gentile religion that Jesus never mentioned, never promoted and never lived that included the daily entrapping of candy or stick.

95% of christianity is man-infested dogma, 90% of it from Paul.

All national institutions of churches, whether Jewish, Christian, or Turkish, appear to me no other than human inventions, set up to terrify and enslave mankind, and monopolize power and profit.

Hard to think that, that far back we had people astute enough as to see exactly what the agenda really was, as anyone who was not a christian, was persecuted to the enth degree.

I cannot imagine having to live centuries ago and being a pioneer of common sense, you'd have a difficult go of it. Hell, look how hard it is for people of common sense in America today !!

    I love "Common Sense"

“The collective good of “the people” mattered more than the private rights and interests of individuals”.

I fully and conscientiously believe that it is the will of the Almighty that there should be a diversity of religious opinions among us. It affords a larger field for our Christian kindness; were we all of one way of thinking, our religious dispositions would want matter for probation; and on this liberal principle I look on the various denominations among us to be like children of the same family, differing only in what is called their Christian names.

Was the 1700s big for atheism and "reason"?

1700's was on track to be another breakthrough century for Science, but alas, like the precious 16 centuries religion brought commons sense and those who asked questions to a grinding halt.

The only thing allowed to improve, was the seaworthiness of ocean-going vessels, everything else in regard to forward thinking was bogged down in christian dogma.
