Daniel Sedin is suddenly a dirty player? COME ON.....Wingels with a major dive, he makes NO effort to brace himself for the CLEAN shoulder to shoulder to hit. He should be embarrassed to call himself an NHL player.

Mad respect for Couture as he's elevated his name and Marleau but Wingels........... what a freaking JOKE!

The Sedins call had to be made.
The Bieksa call was weak but could go either way I suppose.
The Edler call was one of the worst dives I've seen in a while.
Anyone saying Vancouver lost this series because of the refs is lying.

Anyone ever find out what made Stuart's head snap when Roy hit him? I still have no idea.

I like how no one has mentioned Schneider yet.

    Goal #1 - Weak

    Goal #2 - Weak

Goal #3 - Control your rebound

Goal #4 - A little bit of everything above, can you say control your rebound and double weak.

The city takes a dump on Luo if he lets 1 bad goal in ..... I just watched Schneider give up 6 in the last 3 periods

First, I'd think the Canucks are screwed. There's a lot of multi-year contracts left on the books, and not many UFAs available. Plus the core is set because of NTC/NMC's.

Start with the obvious. AV is gone. They've tuned him out or something. Teams have figured out the Canucks system.

Then I'd fired myself, and hire the "new" me.

Fire the North American scouts. Keep Gradin. Tell him to follow Hakan Andersson around.

Trade Luongo by draft day. Try to get a 1st r pick out of it. Draft very deep in C. Try to get a big mobile puck moving dman first. Zadorov? Nurse? Ristolainen? If the offers are way better for Schneider, I'd move him, but I'd make sure Lu is willing to stay and isn't going to screw me over.

Some of these moves will be contingent on who the new coach will be. But I'd be looking for a tactician. And a player's coach who can/willing/knows how to develop young talent. Assistants to be defensive specialists and PP specialists/strategists. I want coaches that notices the details/nuances.

Try to unload Booth and Ballard for picks to free up cap space. Just give these guys away.

Don't re-sign Raymond or Alberts. Offer Malholtra a job as a face off coach.

Sign a shot blocking d man w/ size like D. Murray. Or a strong stay at home dman that can log big minutes. Doesn't have to be super mobile, but take up a lot of space and clear in front of the crease.

Reclamation projects: Look for cheap UFAs with NHL experience who are desperate for a job and are willing to play 3rd line minutes, but have top 6 forward skill. ie. Boyes last year (I would have signed this guy). Another example is Higgins. Victor Stalberg. You can get these guys cheap and short term too.

Plus find versatile players who can play different positions and roles. C/W. RW/LW.

Surround a player like Schroeder with size and skill. 3rd line w/ Kassian and Stalberg. Get Schroeder on an intense workout program to add more muscle. Or move him to wing, and get a big 3rd line C.

Sign David Steckel for faceoffs. Poor man's Malhotra, plus he's a big boy. I don't mind Lapierre back as a 4th line C only. I'm okay with Weise and Sestito on the 4th. But I would prefer guys who can fill a particular role very well. Good at face offs or fore-checking, PK, etc. These guys will have trade value at the deadline, which can help to accumulate 2nd and 3rd picks.

I'd explore short term contract with a player like Jagr. Or Morrow if he's willing to go a little cheaper but for a few years. Some players who might change the locker room atmosphere a bit. But cap room is going to limit it to $3.75 mil

Take our time developing Jensen and Gaunce. Let guys season in the AHL/Europe. Plus they're cheaper later and you don't lose them to UFA in their prime years.

Don't trade our 1st and 2nd picks for the next 3 years. Develop deep prospect pool. Don't waste them on rentals. Save them for when some team is unloading a superstar.

Eventually sign Sedins to their final contracts, with cap friendly numbers. Tell them to practise shootouts all summer long, every summer. Give them a ton of videos too.

Longer term, target players that might take hometown discounts when they become UFA's. BC boys who were fans of the Canucks growing up. RNH, Benn, Turris, E. Kane, Lucic. Under new CBA, they could be available at age 26, 27.

Duchene and Jones (pretty sure Avs will pick him) were Avs fans growing up. They'll wear the sweater with pride.

Interesting. I might keep Alberts if he's cheap enough and something tells me Lappy is going to want more than he's worth and will get it elsewhere.

Also, I'd buy out Booth in a heartbeat. I'd have to mull over Ballard as I don't think he was ever given an honest shot under Vigneault and I've always thought he had the potential to be a very good rushing defenseman, then again 3 years is a long time, so I might just buy the two of them out. Booth has done absolutely nothing to garner any trade interest and Ballard is going nowhere with that contract, so just cut your losses and be done. Looking at CapGeek:
    UFAs
Roy, Raymond, Lapierre, Pinizzotto, Alberts, Barker
    RFAs
    Joslin, Tanev, Weise, Sestito

Sign Tanev TODAY. Give him whatever he wants. I'd re-sign Sestito too. Tough, decent fighter, speedy and responsible. I like him, he's a guy they should keep. Weise had a good season, but whenever a puck goes in off his butt he suddenly thinks he's a goal scorer and tries to play like it. I could go either way on Weise. Joslin I really don't know enough about.
Raymond, Lapierre (I do think he's the best 4th line center in the league, but I'm positive he'll make more elsewhere), Roy and Barker, thanks for coming, don't let the door hit you on the way out (because I don't want butt prints on my door!). Pinizzotto can stayas a 13th or 14th forward, but cheap. Alberts can stay as a 6-8 Dman.

Worst case, yes, we buy Booth out. Ballard we might be able to get something b/c he's a dman and they're always in demand. Plus his contract length not so bad now. Last resort will be to buy out.

I'd have Tanev up with the team next year for sure. Ballard is pretty expensive for a 3rd line pairing. Plus we need someone who can help Elder defensively. Not sure if Alberts can be that guy. Bieksa back with Hamhuis. I guess Tanev with Garrison.

However, I wish instead of 6 top four dmen, I wish we had a legit top pair who can log big minutes. Yes, they cost more, but they play more, and are more effective. But with 4 of the d with NTC's, it'll be awhile. Hence, drafting that dman now.

Ballard has/had the potential to be a good regular dman. Yes AV never gave him a fair shake. I don't understand that. The GM brings in players for you to use and the coach doesn't use them. That's why I wonder about the communication between the two. Plus who are the scouts that give the green light on Ballard? Someone must have scouted to find out if Ballard would fit AVs system. If Gillis is doing it himself, then he needs to be fired b/c then he's part of the problem.

But in terms of NHL roster, the Canucks are a bit handcuffed. So more energy/resources need to be put into player development and scouting.

Sauve is looking like a bust. Rodin borderline. Lack is being outplayed by a younger Cannata. Hopefully we can develop Lain into a power forward. Jensen looks good enough to be top 6. Gaunce can be a decent 2 way forward. But we need elite talent to replace the twins. So unless we suck for a few years and get lucky win the lottery and get a 1st overall pick, then we need to mine these guys out of the later rounds or trade for one when a team is unloading a superstar (Nash, Gaborik, etc). Or keep enough cap space so you can sign UFAs.

Tanev-Edler (if we're keeping Edler, maybe Tanev can be the defenseman to Edler's "I'M A WINGER, I DON'T NEED TO PLAY DEFENSE LOL!"
Bieksa-Hamhuis (they were a shut down pair once, then AV needed to play with something)
    Ballard-Corrado (?)
Yeah, the NTCs are a huge problem and a sign of a Calgary-typre future and not an Edmonton one that at least has hope.

Sauve I had high hopes for, but yeah doesn't seem to be working out. Did Lack get outplayed? Cannata came up from the ECHL and from what I heard, did not get the playing time in Chicago that the Canucks wanted him to get, which is why he was brought up instead of Lack, to get practice time. My personal theory is they want Canatta ready to be the #1 in the AHL so Lack can back up Schneider, but who knows.

What the Canucks don't have that they did in 10-11 is versatility. On that team you could put any guy in any position and it worked. Each and every part was completely interchangeable with every other. This year, when they got his with injuries, they proved they didn't have it. They had heart, they won a decent amount of very boring games, but they couldn't adjust. With the amount that AV tinkers during games and between games, you'd think he'd have it figured out by now, or maybe it's just that he's used up his last tricks.
I don't care what anyone says, this is still a good core for another year or two, but their leader, the caoch, just can't get through to this group anymore. He can't think of other ways to use the assets he has. That's why we watch Raymond skate over the line, shot from the outside and cleared...Hansen over the line, shot from the outside, cleared...Lapierre over the line, shot from the outside...well, you've been watching the games. The Canucks cycled teams to death and created holes in the defence when they won 2 Presidents Trophies. They managed to do it once, on a power play, in this entire series (Kesler's first goal, game 2).

I think the only real problem with the players themselves is that Vigneault has them more worried about playing well than winning. Don't get me wrong, one leads to the other, but when the coach says short shifts that doesn't mean don't cross center because you might get caught up-ice, especially when you're chasing down a lead. There's a lot of talent, hockey IQ and creativity on this team, but it seems like they'd rather not try and fail anyway than try and possibly succeed. AV has been around long enough that I think he's stifling the team. He's also guilty of trying to get blood from a stone. Like trying to get playoff calibre hockey from a guy with 3 games experience all in the last week of the season. Like trying to turn Bieksa into an Edler or Garrison type scoring threat when he's one of the best shut down men in the league and should be used as such. Like watching Roy never able to clear the puck out of the zone no matter the situation and putting him on the penalty kill. Like placing Kassian in a position to succeed on a line with the Sedins (which he did), and then bumping him all over the lineupso Burrows and the Twins can play their predictable, now easy to stop game.Like putting together a line called the fastest in hockey which was playing ridiculously well and then immediately breaking it up and hoping the chemistry of the three would spread to the team.
Also, while I understand Cory is the starter and Cory was your MVP, but what happened to "we have two world class #1 goalies and we will play the hot hand. That's all there is to it."?
Patiently waiting for someone to bring back sax solos and keytars non ironically.
