Some of these are pretty bad, but I must admit if I had to sign thousands of times my signature might get a little sloppy too

Ya i agree with u 100%,thats what in my first comment too...But it wouldnt hurt if there was a little effort, how does some of the others do?They dont sign less, look at the new NHL guy NAIL YAKUPOV,ya me and dont knw what the hell all the loops are but he does it,he even changed his auto from russian letters :)
Hes gonna be doing over 10000+ autos in the comin year...
Or others guys like Michael Jordan,or RGIII or even Andrew Luck, his auto is very simple but atleast its an auto, not a check mark or initials ;)

To echo a previous poster, it has to be frustrating for the players to sign that many times.

Alex Ovechkin signed 932 serial #'d auto cards which were released in 2012-13 alone. There were also 20 cards which were not serial #'d (one can only imagine how many individual signatures that was). Imagine having to write "Ryan Nugent-Hopkins" thousands of times, or "Pierre-Luc Letourneau-Leblond" over and over (yeeesh!)

Even worse is the notion of signing stickers. At least with the cards, you see what you are doing and how the sig fits onto the card. The stickers are just page after page of sign here, here, here, here... Try repeatedly squeezing your signature into a 1/2 in x 2 in space.

SIDE NOTE: Is the use of an auto-pen as prevalent as it was back in the 90's?

frustrating or not they get paid its not like they sign thousands of cards without getting a dime for it.. some should just not sign at all why bother if being sloppy.

Erik Johnson. At the National I saw a copy of his auto that was not even as "good" as his normal auto. It was literally a normal E followed by a normal J. At least his normal signature makes the EJ look somewhat interesting...

Here is another terrible example of his auto...this is STILL better than the one I saw...
