An 'anti-government' gunman shot and killed a TSA agent at an LAX security checkpoint before launching a terrifying shooting spree that injured at least seven others before he was shot by police.

Terminal 3 was evacuated shortly before 10am (PST) on Friday as gunfire rang out at Los Angeles International. Terrified passengers fled the building while others sheltered in lounges that were placed on lock down.

The gunman, who was armed with a high-powered assault rifle, multiple clips of ammunition and believed to be acting alone. He has been named as Paul Anthony Ciancia, aged 23, according to NBC, with reports he was carrying anti-government propaganda.

Airport police chief Patrick Gannon said the male shooter came into Terminal 3, pulled an assault rifle from a bag and opened fire in the terminal. He proceeded up to the screening area, shot his way past screeners and into the airport, making it as far as a Burger King restaurant.

Police fired at the shooter, who was dressed in camouflage and is reportedly an American citizen. Law enforcement reported that the gunman had been wounded and was in custody.

The TSA agent was reportedly killed when the gunman opened fire at the desk where he was checking passengers’ passports and boarding cards.
