    Any Farmers?

are any of you members farmers?

I just bought ten aces and am getting ready to grow some grapes, just looking for some input on anything from grape growing, to planting, to lining up posts, and general farm care.

    thanks

do not use poison for your gophers/moles

gophers stick their heads up so a .22 and some time will take care of them, moles do not so once you get used to them the traps will work but my neighbor put in a few of those in the ground sonic things and I haven't had any sign for almost a year

a dog or 2 will keep the other critters away, deer will become your enemy

I live in what is now the largest Pinot grape growing area in the World - The Willamette Valley in Oregon. Unless you have a 1/4 section of land, don't bother getting into grapes, as the investment required and what 10 acres will generate will not be worth your time.

You will have to wait 6 years to produce about 10 cases of wine, and sorry, not worth it. Grow some great produce and sell at Farmer's Markets during the Summer, and you will have your spending money for the whole year. That or seasonal berries.

Grapes are for landholders of size and initially with Deep Pockets.
