My final want list thread

Hi everyone.

The key rookies in the upcoming 2013-14 SP Authentic set will be the final rookies I will be actively collecting. I will not be chasing SP Authentic rookies from 2014-15 onward (but if my wantlist is not complete and you offer something from after this season, I will consider it). Once I acquire the rookies on my wantlist (shown below) I am retiring.

There are a number of reasons why I am retiring.

#1. I don't like where this hobby has gone, or where it is headed.

When I began in this hobby there were very few autographed cards and no jersey cards (vintage sets had facsimile signatures but are expensive). Then autographed cards came along and if you got one, it was the best thing since sliced bread. Now these cards are everywhere and they have lost their luster in my eyes. Now there are also cards with jerseys or patches, skates, sticks, gloves, fight straps, goalie pads, net cords...there are even cards with hair from famous people!!

Enough is enough. They’ve gone too far.

#2. When I started it was all about 'can I finish my set?' Now it's 'I wonder how much will someone pay for this?' Not a fan of that collecting philosophy. The reason book values are lower is because this is SUPPOSED to be a hobby, not a profit-making venture. It is just cardboard, after all.

#3. Buying a decent box of cards is expensive. Oftentimes, you don't get anything decent if you buy one (living three hours from my nearest 'local' hobby shop does not help). I'm not saying every box should have a Sidney Crosby 1/1, but every box should have something decent to make it worth buying.

#4. Shipping is getting expensive.

#5. I get an impression from some collectors that if I don't have PayPal, I am irrelevant. I don't like being discriminated against.

Collecting should be fun and decent boxes should be affordable. Sadly, the reasons I have listed above have made collecting unaffordable and sucked the fun out of collecting for me.
