April 11th, 1948: Bob Flock of the famous Flock racing family takes the win on the Augusta, GA short track.

April 11th, 1999: Rusty Wallace wins at Bristol to score his 50th career victory.

Today In Nascar History-April 12th:

Winners on this date: Buck Baker, Speedy Thompson, David Pearson, Pete Hamilton, Darrell Waltrip, Dale Earnhardt, Davey Allison, Jimmie Johnson, and Kevin Harvick.

April 12th, 1952: Buck Baker wins at Columbia, SC and Lee Petty takes the points lead, but the real what? moment from this race-E.C. Ramsey crashed into a passenger car that attempted to cross the track DURING THE RACE!-both cars were damaged badly-Nascar’s come a long way haha.



April 12th, 1970: Pete Hamilton takes the win at Talladega in his winged Petty Enterprises Superbird. The 2nd half of the race is televised by ABC.



April 12th, 1987: Dale Earnhardt boots Sterling Marlin out of the way to win at Bristol.

April 12th, 2008: After getting off to a slow start in 2008, 2-time defending champ Jimmie Johnson takes the win on a fuel economy run at Phoenix.



April 12th, 2014: Kevin Harvick dominates much of the night at Darlington and passes Dale Earnhardt Jr. on a GWC restart late to claim the victory-his 2nd of the season and 25th of his career, as well as his first at Darlington. Harvick joins Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson as the only active cup drivers to have won Nascar's "big 4" races.

Winners on this date-Curtis Turner, Ned Jarrett, Buck Baker, Richard Petty, David Pearson (2 times), Bobby Allison, Dale Earnhardt, Jeff Gordon (2 times), and Kyle Busch.

April 13th, 1958: Curtis Turner and Joe Weatherly finish 1-2 at Lakewood Speedway in Atlanta in Holman Moody Fords.



April 13th, 1975: Bobby Allison comes from 2 laps behind with 40 laps to go to win at Darlington. Allison beats Darrell Waltrip to the line by a car length or so in his famed red, white, and blue matador.



April 13th, 1980: David Pearson is out front at Darlington driving his 1st race for Hoss Ellington in a Chevy when it rains, giving Pearson his 105th and final career Cup Series victory.

April 13th, 1997: Jeff Gordon and Rusty Wallace engage in a last lap duel after avoiding 20 cautions at Bristol-Gordon knocks Wallace out of the way to win (I’m sure a lot of you remember this one).



April 13th, 2003: Jeff Gordon dominates once again at Martinsville in route to victory.



April 13th, 2013: Kyle Busch takes advantage of a late race yellow and a poor pit stop from the dominant car of the day in Martin Truex Jr. to claim the victory at Texas.

Winners on this date: Fireball Roberts, Richard Petty, Ned Jarrett, Bill Elliott, Rusty Wallace, Terry Labonte, Bobby Labonte, and Greg Biffle.

April 14th, 1991: Rusty Wallace holds of Ernie Irvan in a spirited battle at Bristol to take the win-earlier in the race Sterling Marlin survives a fiery crash after blowing a tire.

April 14th, 1996: Terry Labonte ties Richard Petty's consecutive start record of 513 races at North Wilkesboro-and wins both the pole and the race to cap it off (this was that silver car if you guys remember).



April 14th, 2002: Bobby Labonte takes the first short track win of his career at Martinsville-Kenny Wallace subs for a suspended Kevin Harvick in the 29 car.

April 14th, 2012: Greg Biffle passes Jimmie Johnson to win a tame and record average speed-setting race at Texas Motor Speedway. It is Biffle's first win in 49 races breaking a long dry spell.

April 15th, 1973: David Pearson dominates at Darlington and wins the Rebel 500 by 13 LAPS!!!!



April 15th, 1984: Darrell Waltrip cruises to victory in the Budweiser #11 at Darlington.

April 15th, 2007: Jeff Burton and Matt Kenseth engage in a terrific duel in the final laps as Burton prevails at Texas-the race also features a lap 1 melee and the Dale Jr./Kyle Busch wreck on the frontstretch-afterwards Busch left the track and Jr. jumped in his car.....a sign of things to come.

Winners on this date: Curtis Turner, Rex White, Ned Jarrett, Darel Dieringer, David Pearson, Darrell Waltrip, Dale Earnhardt, and Jeff Gordon.

April 16th, 1972: David Pearson passes Richard Petty and wins the Rebel 400 at Darlington in his very first start in the #21 Wood Brothers Car.




April 16th, 1989: Dale Earnhardt pulls away to win at North Wilkesboro-it is the first race in which Goodyear uses its new radial tire in the Cup Series compared to the bias plys in the past (we've used radials ever since).

April 16th, 2000: Jeff Gordon starts 36th at Talladega but makes his way through the pack to win. It is his 50th career victory.

April 17th, 1952: Marshall Teague, the Grand National series points leader, is stripped of all his points when he quits Nascar and joins the AAA tour rivals.

April 17th, 1965: Rookie Dick Hutcherson takes his first ever career win in the race at Greenville-Pickens Speedway.

April 17th, 2005: Greg Biffle dominates at Texas in route to another Roush victory at the track as 3 Ganassi cars finish in the top 5 spots.



April 17th, 2011: On a record-tying day in Talladega, Jimmie Johnson edges out Clint Bowyer in a thrilling finish which sees the top 8 cars tango draft for the win coming to the line. The race ties the number for a record amount of lead changes in Nascar history (88-set at the same race in 2010) and for closest margin of victory since the electronic timing era (.002 seconds-tying Ricky Craven and Kurt Busch in 2003 at Darlington).

Winners on this date: Skimp Hersey, Herb Thomas, Curtis Turner, Glen Wood, Junior Johnson, Bobby Isaac, Richard Petty (2 times), Darrell Waltrip, Rusty Wallace (2 times), John Andretti, and Mark Martin.

April 18th, 1948: Skimp Hersey wins his only career Nascar race in the modified division. He would unfortunately lose his life in 1950 after a crash at Lakewood Speedway.

April 18th, 1970: Richard Petty dominates at North Wilkesboro-the 2nd half of the race is televised by ABC and Petty leads the whole broadcast.

April 18th, 1999: John Andretti, driving the #43 car for the King Richard Petty, takes his 2nd career win by taking the checkers at Martinsville.

April 18th, 2004: Rusty Wallace takes his 55th and last career victory by winning at Martinsville. (this was the race where the concrete came out of the track and ruined Gordon's car and we had a red flag and stuff)




April 18th, 2009: Mark Martin breaks a 4 year drought with a win at Phoenix. He becomes the first 50 year-old plus driver to win since Morgan Shepard at Atlanta in 1993. It is also his first win for a car owner besides Jack Roush.

Winners on this date: Lee Petty, Fireball Roberts, Ned Jarrett, Fred Lorenzen, and Denny Hamlin.


April 19th, 2010: Denny Hamlin holds off a late charge from Jimmie Johnson to win the Cup race at Texas on a Monday. Hamlin goes 2 for 2 on the season on Monday races. Jeff Gordon and many other front runners are wiped out in a huge late race accident.

April 20th, 1998: Bobby Hamilton dominates at Martinsville leading most of the laps and cruising to over a 6 second victory. It is his 3rd career win.

April 20th, 2002: Not Cup...but the then Busch Series at Talladega-biggest crash in the modern era (since 1972)-30 cars. Jason Keller won the race.
