Nathan mackinnon already a star with hockey collectors
You may not realize Nathan MacKinnon was 18 years old by watching him play hockey.
He moves across the ice with the presence of someone who has played on this level for years. He sees the ice well, finding intricate ways to get the puck on his teammates’ sticks. MacKinnon can score too.
In two games in the Stanley Cup playoffs, the Colorado Avalanche rookie already has seven points, tying the record for the most points in the first two playoff games of a career. MacKinnon had three assists in Game 1 against the Minnesota Wild, and a goal and three assists in Game 2. Game 3 is tonight at 7 p.m. ET.
MacKinnon is the frontrunner for The Calder Cup, given to the best NHL rookie every year. During the regular season, he led all rookies with 63 points (24 goals, 39 assists).
When it comes to hockey cards, MacKinnon is already a star. Collectors scrambled to get his Rookie Cards the moment they appeared in sets starting with 2013-14 Select and 2013-14 Upper Deck Series 1. Since then, he’s easily been the most collectible rookie out of the Double Rookie Class.

The kid's hockey brain might be better than Gretzky's. He's a helluva lot stronger and larger than Gretzky. If He skated like Stamkos, he would be a horror show for Defensemen for the next 15 years, now they will just have to settle for him being a heart attack instead.

how good do people think he can be? Could he be better than Crosby in a couple years?

I really like his game but......
Very early in his career to even think his hockey brain might be better than Gretzky.

Adam Oates and Tiger Williams Hockey brain matched and often exceed Gretzky's. Oates for his uncanny ability to spot open ice and place the pass for where his teammate would be the most effective. Tiger for trying harder than any player that ever played and parlaying all his modest salary into a business fortune.

Depends on what you mean by "better than Crosby in a couple years"
In two years' time.... I have my doubts that a 20 year old Mackinnon will be better than a 28 year old Crosby. 8 years time? I would expect a 26 year old Mackinnon to be better than a 34 year old Crosby.
As far as accomplishments go... Crosby is now 9 years into his career. He's got a cup, two Olympic Golds, two scoring titles, a Richard trophy, two Pearsons (or Lindsays, whatever you call it) a Hart trophy, and been a first team all star twice. He's got over 650 career points, and will likely finsih the year amoung the top 50 playoff scorers of all time (assuming the Pens can go a couple of rounds).
Wil Mackinnon reach those kinds of accomplishments in 9 years?? Probably not.
Having said that.... a scoring title isn't out of the question, and Colorado has the pieces to be a Cup contender for a while - so 9 years from now?? I guess, maybe?? He could have more rings than Sid, and comparable personal hardware??
I think it's still way too early to start labeling this guy "the next....." or "better than.....". He's really, really, good though. Should be a top player in the NHL for many years.
