There are other sites but nobody uses them in the movement of buying and selling goods.

You can use another site, but the person on the other end must also be willing and if they are a business, there's a good chance they aren't.

If you are selling yourself, you will have to hold out for somebody who also does not use Paypal and will buy from your via Money Order or Cash.

I agree that it will be tougher to do business without paypal. I'd bet google wallet is pretty good and would be great for paying for items, but not sure what sort of extra hoops that will add for people to send you money.

What exactly are the things with Paypal that are turning you off.

Outrageous commissions on low amounts turn me off Paypal. I paid a $5.38 commission on $175.00.

Then I sell something for a total of $2.25 and they take 27-35 cents. Just a money grab. They should be able to operate like a Credit Card company where they take 2 points on a purchase, not 6-8 points on low amounts under 10 bucks.

I rarely sell items under $10, but I can definitely see if you are selling lower sales it would be a big hit to pay that much in commissions.

The kick in the pants is that eBay, which owns PayPal, goes above and beyond to promote PayPal and prohibit any other form of funds transfer. You can't even create an auction with the words "money order" in it.

Google Wallet destroys PayPal in the fees department. They charge 2.9% to send funds using a credit or debit card. No fee to receive money. No fee to send money debited directly from your back account. No fee to send money that is already in your Google Wallet balance. So unless you send money with your credit or debit card, the entire funds transfer for everyone is free.

And they have a cell phone app.

Australia is the only country in the World that does not allow eBay to dictate Paypal only. They told eBay they would charge them in court under the combines monopoly act they have in that country and the unfairness of the whole thing.

eBay balked, and the Ozzie governments told them, that they would be unable to transact business in Australia if they tried to strong-arm the residents. More countries need to put eBay and Paypal in their place.

I have some some old templates that get reused from time to time that has "money order" and "check" in the terms at the bottom and the listing system always errors out and makes me delete those terms before listing. It's annoying that they require only Paypal.
