Will your Canon printer/scanner scan without the ink printing cartridges?

I recently picked up a used, like new, Canon M2520 All in One that was without any ink cartridges for the printer.

The scanner want work and I was wondering if it could be because no cartridges are loaded in for the printer?

I was hoping I could at least work with the scanner in spite of this but maybe not?

Anyone have the same or perhaps a similar Canon All in One that happened to use the scanner without having ink cartridges installed or can pass along other insight?

Are you able to contact a Canon customer rep and ask them about scanning without ink?

I have a Canon all in one and it needs an ink cartridge to scan.
