I read that this was supposedly a safe flight path. I'm not sure exactly what that means or if there were other planes that flew through the zone successfully.

Planes have been flying through there for years upon years, and planes flew through right before this plane, too. Wrong place at the wrong time.

I think this is a pretty good article. http://blogs.crikey.com.au/planetalk...didnt-make-it/
As it should be...flying over the warzone is now closed except for military and governmental aircraft. 3 planes have now been shot down in a week.

It's only been the warlike zone it is now for months.

Right, but what I was referring to was that once the airlines have the routes, they don't like to change them as it effects many other flights.

well obviously it was safe years ago or even 6 months ago. I heard that they've shot down some military planes days prior to yesterday. I was thinking maybe the people creating flight paths would know about that... Maybe not.
Definitely wrong place wrong time and pretty crazy to think a commercial plane at 30,000 would be shot down.
