Imac you think Obama is a "great" president?

Im astonished by the bias. Even Alex came to his senses.

you continue to put words in my mouth with each post... do you just make up in your mind what every person thinks? lol

Obama has been a very successful president (economy recovered, obama care IS working, the car bailout was a giant success)... but he's also let an obstructionist congress dictate the national agenda rather than dictate it to them. He will be looked at historical much better than he is viewed today (like Harry Truman)... but he's far from "great"... great would be Bill Clinton.. who broke through the republican BS

As for your "anti-progressive" stance... the following presidents were left leaning, or flat out called themselves progressive...

    George Washington
    John Adams
    James Madison
    Abe Lincoln
    Teddy Roosevelt
    Woodrow Wilson
    FDR
    Eisenhower
    Kennedy
    Clinton
    Obama

You left Jimmy "I could've wiped them off the map" Carter off your list, why?

Since you're a history guy, can you give us more parallels between Washington and Obama besides just putting them on the same list?

Jimmy Carter is the president that should have never been (he was elected in response to Watergate)... so yes I do not count him. The man wasn't fit for the office but he did have good ideas (IE trying to end importation of foreign oil)

as for Washington and Obama... not much to compare there... they weren't alike. The only thing they have in common is a shared belief in a federal system of government... an after thought today but the biggest liberal v. conservative issue in Washington's time.

Yes Clinton... the only president to oversee a balanced budget in the 20th century. The president who coined the idea of "Pay/Go" which is probably the best economic system the US could implement. The president who even republicans look back on and wish he was still in office today lol.

Oversee, yes, but doesn't Congress balance the budget?

Clinton had terrible foreign policy, just like Obama. He could've gotten Bin Laden but didn't, let the Balkans War rage for years with doing little to nothing. Even the first twin towers attack occurred under Clinton....then of course there was his extra marital affair, but who wants to talk about that?

Many hardline liberals simply refuse to look at the reality of the situation. I just read an article today by one of these types of people that said if we don't consider polls, popularity ratings or public opinion in general that Obama has been a success as a president. His logic was that history doesn't document polls ratings, although the author also didn't bother to make any legit claims as to what Obama has succeeded at. It always kills me how they claim Obamacare is a success (while ignoring that 2/3rds of Americans didn't want it and it has been a repeated headache all along). They love to trumpet about him "bringing home the troops from Iraq" while ignoring he just sent them to Afghanistan and that Iraq is now at risk of falling to ISIS. They also conveniently ignore/forget that gas prices are the highest average ever for any president, he failed to close Gitmo, received the Nobel Prize for nothing and then proceeded to prove he is no more peaceful than the "warmongerer" Bush, drug his feet on cleaning up the Gulf Oil spill to use it as leverage for green energy then dumped billions of taxpayer dollars into green energy companies that failed, promised to put all legislation on the Internet for five days before it was voted on...then didn't, was the only president to personally appeal for an Olympics (and failed anyway)...I could go on. It's late and KoolAid addicted libs won't read or believe this anyway, so...

Clinton's balanced budget was do to the tech boom, plain and simple. Clinton signed the defense of marriage act and clinton was an idiot and womanizer.

Terrible foreign policy? He regulated relations with Russia that fell apart under bush, he saved the balkins, We didn't enter any major wars / conflicts during his presidency which hadn't happened since pre WW2... and the Bin Laden thing? It was the republican congress who blocked his actions in 1998. Why? The monica lewinsky BS was going on at the time and they were using congressional power to block anything he could do at the time.

On a side note... its a conservative ideal to hate foreign policy in general, not sure if you knew that. Conservationism would have the US strip its defense programs and give that money "back to the people" with tax cuts and deregulation. Only the perverted neo-conservationism brought in by Richard Nixon and his cronies have changed the historical liberal idea of a strong global presence into a conservative ideal.
