I know if I'm spending good money on something, it definitely has to be good quality. I wouldn't buy anything graded under 6 for older cards.

I agree with cards from the 70s and 80s but there are cards that are 50-100 years old that either don't exist in high grade or are insanely expensive. a PSA 4 Vezina is a quality card, as is a nice looking PSA 1 Howe.

To the OP - the biggest consideration when collecting vintage is eye appeal. There are poor looking 8s and there are great looking 2s. The PSA 1 you linked is actually not bad for the grade. I thought about that card but picked up a Dryden rookie instead last week.

As someone else said, cards are a bad investment so focus on buying vintage cards that look great to your eye.
