Obama's Free college, who is paying for this??
In honor of Habs calling me out and saying I am an Obama hater, I thought I would start my own Obama thread on his new FREE college plan. YAY!
And the Liberals say he's not a Socialist. Ha Ha Ha

I think it is one of the biggest jokes ever. All it does is make a two year degree worthless. The market will be flooded with people who have them. Right now a two year degree is the way to go. After this happens it won't be.
Why not just extend high school an optional extra year and have practical courses for specific jobs?

Yep, I can't figure out what this is truly all about except to assume it is same old politics with this guy. I saw one CC guy say this will allow all the people that couldn't qualify for college be able to get college degrees....is that what we want??? Everybody is equal and they are all equally smart, equally able to do the same things, equally able to buy the same houses, have the same cars, etc. etc. etc.

I guess it will make my 4 year degree a little more valuable. Isn't there already programs the help people with student loans? And I hate the crap about not being able to pay them back. If you don't think you'll get a good job then don't go to school. Community colleges around here are dirt cheap anyways.

Usually. I went to one of the best CCs in Ohio to get some early stuff out of the way for my 4 year degree and I hope my kids do that. I know I saved at least $1k doing that but I had loans too, its a personal responsibility thing and it slaps all the hard workers in the face the more the government gives away.

beachbum - I only used you as an example because you had posted in this thread. Not personal, just convenient. As for this idea. I haven't read anything on it yet. Here's my question. If you want an educated society (I think we can all agree that is optimal) and the government already pays for your first 12 years of education, what is wrong with government paying for a basic college education? Just as the rich or those able to pay can send their kids to private school, they could still send their kids to the more prestigious colleges.
I definitely think it deserves a little study and thought before dismissing it as the dreaded "socialism" that you all hate, yet live with already.

All Americans can now have a shot at the very least SOME basic college and continue their education.
This Obama guy is clearly the devil and Hitler rolled into one!
How dare he propose something so evil and horrible!

I seriously wonder how today's conservatives would have reacted when ordinary citizens were finally allowed to even HAVE an education paid by the government....I'm sure their heads would've literally done a 360 degree turn.

Give them free community college? Not sure what education you need to work at your financial institution, but if you had gone to a community college, most people from poorer communities end up going for free already through financial aid. The worst part about it is that the majority don't take the opportunity seriously and dont get grades worth mentioning. So making it mandatory to have these people go for free? No thanks, I don't need more taxes for people who don't want to work, and don't care enough to make of a good situation already.

I posted in this thread??? Well I hope so, I started it.
I don't really care, I was just surprised you used me as the Obama Hater when I am clearly more anti-Lib, doesn't matter I think the problem here isn't the education, it is the question I posed in the title. WHO IS GOING TO PAY FOR IT??
We are already 18.1 Trillion in debt, what is the national debt of Canada?
