My entry this week is the original contract between NBC and Wayne Gretzky's company Merak Investments agreeing to "loan" Gretzky to NBC to host an episode of Saturday Night Live in 1989. The contract is signed twice and initialed five times by Gretzky.

Gretzky is the only hockey player to have ever hosted SNL. His appearance included skits such as "Celebrity Hockey Ideas", "Fishing with the Anal Retentive Sportsman" and the hilariously cheezy "Waikiki Hockey". It's all but impossible to find the full video of his appearance on SNL online but here's video of the Waikiki Hockey segment showing Gretzky reading cue cards and lip-syncing for your viewing enjoyment:

An interesting note about his appearance was that he had originally declined to appear on the show but his wife called Lorne Michaels back after he'd declined and said Wayne would do it! He found out he'd "agreed" to do the show when he read about it in the newspaper!

That Gretzky contract is a pretty cool piece. Anyone that watches hockey and was over 10 years old remembers that SNL, the Waikiki Hockey skit is legendary.

The yellow on this jersey is electric and stands out in a crowd such as at the Expo.
