What do people do with signed jersey numbers?

I've seen people recently getting jersey numbers signed and not the whole jersey, so I was wondering what people do with them? Do you replace it with the number on another jersey and sew it on? Or do you just keep it as is? Just curious, thanks in advance.

It's easier to carry around a jersey number than an entire jersey. After the number is signed I've either framed it in a shadowbox or i got it stitched onto the original jersey. It's just more convenient than carrying a jersey

I've always been curious about this myself, which is why I didn't put a response in. I have also seen at some shows where a player will not sign a loose number, which seems strange to me as well. For instance, in the upcoming Mounted memories show in Chicago, Daryle LaMonica will sign any item for $39, but it says on the order page that he "won't sign loose jersey number".

maybe they don't want them sewn onto bootleg jerseys, thus cheapening the value of their memorabilia on the market
