Police Chief Proposing Ordinance to Ban "Saggy Pants"

    http://www.katc.com/story/28333449/o...mobilecgbypass

I thought this would be a good discussion even though there have been towns talking about this in the past. In my opinion this is a reach unless people being stopped are breaking obscenity laws and revealing their genitalia. I don't get the fashion, but there are lots of fashions that I think look ridiculous. It's bad enough to have officers spend their time stopping someone if they have sagging pants. It's even more ridiculous to want to fine them or possibly jail them for how they wear their pants. I've seen a good number of people sagging pants but I've never seen anyone exposing parts of their bodies that they shouldn't. Since this is a police chief proposing this law it makes you wonder if he's also trying to create more reasons for officers to be able to contact people.

parents should ban kids from wearing them, but adults can wear want they want, no matter how absurd it may seem to others.
this is just an attempt by people who think they know best to try and make others follow what they think.

If an adult wants to look ridiculous and have their pants hanging off their bottoms so be it. But kids in school and stuff I can understand not having that.

I don't allow saggy pants or low cut tops in my classroom. Both are technically a school dress code violation, but very few enforce it.

I have an agreement with the agriculture teacher that if I have a student with saggy pants that either didn't wear a belt or claims he doesn't have one, I can stop by her class and get some baling twine and make him some suspenders. As soon as word got out that I would do that the saggy pants epidemic in my class came to a screeching halt.

That's funny. Do kids adjust there pants the whole day because of your class rule or do they pull them up when they step into your classroom?

There is a belt wearing epidemic in my class LOL. I haven't had to tell someone to pull up their pants in 5 months.

This is nothing more than a guise to give police an excuse to harass civilians and violate civil liberties. This is extremely dangerous. Each day we are moving closer to a totalitarian police state.
