question about buying older packs on eBay

When purchasing old packs of cards (topps chrome) Is their any way they can scam? Packs are sealed. Pretty expensive so don't wanna risk it. One is 10 packs left out of old box. Thanks

One of the Problems is that the risk is that all the hits are gone out of the box already and they are trying to recoup what they can. I think it's to risky if you ask me and wouldn't do it.

Not saying all eBay sellers do it but the ways they can scam you are to open a box and once they pull a hit or something good they are looking for just sell the rest of the cards. There will be virtually no chance to get a hit in them if you get one hit per box and the hit has already been pulled.

Two they can always search the packs, weigh them, damage them, or open the pack up and take out the good cards and then reseal it. This is most commonly done with "hot packs".

With 03-04 Topps Chrome isn't the big hit LeBron's RC? I don't know how they could search the packs for a rookie.

You probably can't but if you open up a box and pull a LeBron rookie odds are you aren't going to pull another one. That could account for people selling half a box or something of the packs. You open till you hit what you want and then sell the rest for money instead of opening them.

Same could be said for boxes/cases then right?

Online retailer/seller cracks a case, get's to box 2 and gets the "Case hit", sells the remaining boxes.

Not sure if there is an advantage since the other boxes/packs are a mystery but...

Something I've always wondered when thinking of pulling the trigger on a box from a major seller/retailer.

It isn't as common with boxes on eBay but the threat/risk is there and people have been burned before. You really have to trust the seller.
