    Today in Nascar History June 21st:

    Winners on this date: Dick Rathmann, Tom Pistone, Ned Jarrett, Bobby Isaac, Bobby Allison, Tim Richmond, Davey Allison, Jeremy Mayfield, and Kasey Kahne.

    June 21st, 1953: Dick Rathmann leads all 200 laps and wins the race at Langhorne Speedway. It is the first Nascar event open to both domestic and foreign vehicles. Lloyd Shaw wins the pole in a Jaguar for the event.




    June 21st, 1981: Bobby Allison comes from 7th place to 1st place on the last lap of competition to win at Michigan. When Kyle Petty blows an engine in turn 2, most of the 10 car lead pack spins in the oil and crashes while Allison maneuvers his way through the carnage to come out leading and takes the win under the yellow.




    June 21st, 1998: Jeremy Mayfield dominates the Pocono 500, leading 122 of the 200 laps to score his first career Cup Series Victory in his 125th career start.




    June 21st, 2009: Kasey Kahne wins at Sonoma, his first victory since June of 2008 and the first for the newly merged RPM motorsports team. Kahne endures many yellow flags and in turn many late double file restarts, holding off road course aces Tony Stewart and Marcos Ambrose to take his first ever career win on a road course.

    Winners on this date: Speedy Thompson, Bill Amick, Jim Paschal, Richard Petty, Jeff Gordon, Robby Gordon, and Kyle Busch.

    June 22nd, 1997: Jeff Gordon wins the inaugural event at the brand new California Speedway in Fontana, CA. Teammate Terry Labonte finishes 2nd making it a 1-2 for Hendrick Motorsports.




    June 22nd, 2003: Robby Gordon, driving Richard Childress' #31 car, holds off Jeff Gordon in a spirited late race duel to win at Sonoma.




    June 22nd, 2008: After starting 30th, Kyle Busch uses pit strategy to gain track position and never looks back after inheriting the lead, to win at Sonoma in dominant fashion.

    Winners on this date: Curtis Turner, Tim Flock, John Kieper, Junior Johnson, Dick Hutcherson, Richard Petty, David Pearson, Dale Earnhardt, Tony Stewart, Juan Pablo Montoya, and Clint Bowyer.

    June 24th, 2001: Tony Stewart passes Robby Gordon with 11 laps to go and goes on to win at Sonoma. Gordon's lead is diminished greatly when teammate Kevin Harvick holds him up on track, allowing Stewart to catch up to Gordon.



    June 24th, 2007: Formula 1 and Indy Car star Juan Pablo Montoya scores his first career Cup Series Victory by winning on fuel mileage at Sonoma.



    June 24th, 2012: Clint Bowyer dominates much of the event and holds off a spirited charge from Kurt Busch in the unsponsored and underfunded 51 car to score an upset victory at Sonoma.

    June 25th, 1950: Jimmy Florian takes the first Grand National (Cup) Series win for the Ford nameplate by winning at Dayton. The race is held in close to 100 degree temperatures, so Florian drives the race with no shirt.




    June 25th, 2006: Jeff Gordon racks up another Road Course win in Sonoma.

    June 28th, 2009: After receiving two lucky dog free passes and spinning out, rookie Joey Logano uses brilliant strategy and a little bit of luck to score his first career Cup Series win. The New Hampshire event is halted by rain in the late going and Logano is the beneficiary. The 19 year old's win makes him the youngest driver ever to win a Cup Series race, breaking Kyle Busch's record.




    June 28th, 2015: In his 5th race back from injury, Kyle Busch holds off brother Kurt and Clint Bowyer to win at Sonoma, his 2nd career victory at the California road course.
