Politics and Religion forum closes on July 1st

I guess at this point if I get in trouble for "spamming" it won't matter as with the closing of P&R I won't have any reason to come back to SCF now that I have quit the card hobby.

About 2 years ago when I was AGM this issue of closing the P&R became a subject of discussion within the staff area. I proposed that a political discussion forum that I had created be treated as a sister site to SCF where any political discussion here would be directed to my forum and any sports related talk at my forum would be directed to SCF via hyperlinks. After 6 months of asking if this was something Mike would want to do without ever getting an answer I gave up trying. My time invested in AGM here had prevented me from properly investing time in my own forum and the investment of hundreds of dollars out of my own pocket for a domain name, site hosting and software/app purchases made it illogical to continue on. So I let the domain expire and forgot about it.

Then a month or so ago it came to my attention that P&R was probably going to close. I checked and my old domain has been purchased, so that option is out. Instead I started another forum, which is currently a work in progress, just for the purpose of political discussion. If anyone wants to join there, it is free, of course. Everyone, regardless of political affiliation or opinion is welcome. The rules there are much more relaxed than they are here, all I ask is that no porn be posted and the flaming stay to a minimum. The address is XXXXXXXXX NAME CHANGE! I bought a domain name. The new address is http://politicsandreligionforum.com

If after some time I see that it is worth it I will go ahead and purchase a full domain name and perform some software upgrades and add to it, but for now I need to see that there is enough interest in it before I will go that route.

I will say one more thing....

Even though I DO have other places that I frequent and can talk about P&R.....I have seen the bright side about going to a place where many people believe the things I usually oppose.

Believe it or not, I have changed my mind about guns at least a LITTLE BIT....due to this website.

I'm sure if you go back to the first time I made a post about guns on this forum it was the far left position that we should either BAN Guns or restrict them very tightly.

I no longer believe that.

I have read many studies and many opinions of people including the ones from this forum....and I have completely changed my mind on that.

Not only do I now fully support American citizens owning guns, in some way I encourage it!

At the end of the day, I believe people should live free to do as they please as long as they do not infringe the rights of others....but one has to protect themselves if necessary.

AND NO....the Cops will NOT protect you if an invader came into your house.

YOU have to protect yourself and your family.

That's another reason why I liked it as well. You got a mix of people's views and opinions from not only all around the country but around the world. You could debate, ask questions and get a personal view with the opinion rather than just hearing something on TV and being done with it. Most of the time it never changed my views but some of the time it did. Getting a POV you really didn't look at before and going back and forth with the person you could learn something new that would alter your way of thinking because you realized the new way of thinking was better than what you previously thought.

It's gonna be a sad thing not seeing all the opinionated people but on the other hand I still have my local tavern where I can go if I feel like arguing politics or religion. Now back to Sports & Sport related threads. Thank You!!

Actually that tavern is set to close at the end of the month. Guess they were tired of all the activity they were getting.
