The Newest Museum Addition, Straight Outta Vancouver!

The newest addition for the museum is again, of a forgotten player who came and went fast in the league. So few have heard of him, but that is one purpose of the museum project, to educate the fans of the game on every goalie to ever make the game. To me, a one game guy is just as big as a one-thousand game guy.

So, on that note, onto the player. Born January 15, 1982 in Brandon, Manitoba, Rob McVicar was a standout talent on the Brandon Wheat Kings of the WHL before being drafted in the 5th round by Vancouver in the 2002 NHL draft. He bounced around steadily between the American Hockey League and the East Coast Hockey League from 2003 until the 2005-06 season. After an injury to Dan Cloutier during the regular season, McVicar was called up to the big-time by the Canucks in order to back-up Alex Auld, who had become the team's starter in that time. Then, like most tales such as this, it happened. On December 1, 2005, the Canucks were facing the Oilers and Rob McVicar was placed in net to replace Auld who had let in five goals. McVicar played a grand total of two minutes and forty-four seconds in relief in an ultimate 5-3 defeat. McVicar faced no shots. For the next four seasons, he played in the ECHL and CHL before eventually retiring from professional hockey.

McVicar's NHL career spanned that lone game and he faced no shots. He did, however, appear as back-up in 3-5 additional games in the big league.

The jersey you are looking at was not used in his NHL debut, but was used in one of his back-up appearances and is the jersey featured on many of his rookie cards from that year. Wear is minimal as could be expected, but there is a small puck mark blocker-side and some sort of a burn between the centre crest and the shoulder.
