Which young player(s) will have a break out year in 15/16?

Some players I am looking forward to seeing how they do:

Mackinnon: should he have been Number #1
Hertl: as good as we thought he was going to be before injury?
Nichushkin: as great as Jagr predicted?
Galchenyuk: can he survive/thrive the MTL pressure?
Pasternak: How many pts can he put up in full season?
    Monahan: 40 Goals?
Scheifele: its time to improve on 49 pts, will he?
Gaudreau: Forsberg, Ekblad @ Stone: Who beats the sophomore jinx?
Drouin: lights it up playing full time?
Nik Ehlers: cracks Jets lineup, Calder finalist?
    Dougie Hamilton: over or under-rated?
    O'Reilly: proves he is worth 7 M?
    E. Kane: proves he is worth 6 M, scores over/under 30 Goals?
Huberdeau, Barkov, Bjugstad: Who shines brightest?

    Jack Eickel: over/under 70 pts?

    and...MacDavid: over/under 80 pts?

plus all the others who have I missed...?

70 pts seems to be the magic Number: See Tarasenko last season 37 G 73 Pts.

Who will the "next one" be? (and get a 50 M contract! :P )

maybe RNH or Zibanjad fulfill their hype...

With Hertl it depends if they put him on one of the top 2 lines.

I think Huberdeau and Barkov will flirt with 70 pts if they and Jagr stay healthy.

I don't think McDavid or Eichel will get close to 70 points.

    Id say:

Mackinnon 85 points, Strome, Monahan & Sam Bennett around 150 points combined, Mcdavid 60 to 75 points.

    #1 TYLER SEGUIN breaks 100 points :)

    and goooooooo.......

edit: and Jack will get no more than 50 points LOL

Mackinnon: should he have been Number #1
    ^^^
Should have been #1, yes. Will improve - but not a top 10 scorer. Not for another few years.

Hertl: as good as we thought he was going to be before injury?
    ^^^
There is no reason to think he's more than a 40-something point player.

Nichushkin: as great as Jagr predicted?
    ^^^
Maybe. Probably not as good as Jagr predicted, but I could see a big jump. 65 points not out of the question.

Galchenyuk: can he survive/thrive the MTL pressure?
    ^^^
Yes he can. Full of skill. Not going to be a top-10 scorer, but could be really really good.

Pasternak: How many pts can he put up in full season?
    ^^^
Somewhere between Hertle (45ish) and Nichushkin (65ish). Could do more, but not on a team that will be good for his production.

    Monahan: 40 Goals?
    ^^^
40 Goals? Nope. 30? Also nope. 20? Yeah, he can break that.

Scheifele: its time to improve on 49 pts, will he?
    ^^^
Probably not. Winnipeg reached when they took him. He's a 40-50 point guy. That's it.

Gaudreau: Forsberg, Ekblad @ Stone: Who beats the sophomore jinx?
    ^^^
    Probably Forsberg & Ekblad.

Drouin: lights it up playing full time?
    ^^^
Maybe. Depends what kind of ice time they give him, pp time, etc

Nik Ehlers: cracks Jets lineup, Calder finalist?
    ^^^
Not a Calder finalist, but a good rookie season. Good chance he outscores Schiefle

    Dougie Hamilton: over or under-rated?
    ^^^
Both? CAL got him for nothing, and he's a really good player. He is not going to transform the Flames into a contender though.

    O'Reilly: proves he is worth 7 M?
    ^^^
He'll never be "worth" that contract. In 3 years, Buffalo will have their own version of Shawn Horcoff

    E. Kane: proves he is worth 6 M, scores over/under 30 Goals?
    ^^^
Over 30 goals, under 60 points. Worth 6M? Not sure.

Huberdeau, Barkov, Bjugstad: Who shines brightest?
    ^^^
Barkov.... but they all do well.

    Jack Eickel: over/under 70 pts?
    ^^^
    Under. Way under. I don't expect 50.

    and...MacDavid: over/under 80 pts?
    ^^^
Ask me after the first two weeks? THN has him pegged to go over that, but I'm not so sure. Maybe?

Triplets in Tbay will be another fine year....... RNH will get into the 75 point range.... Zibanjad won't.

I agree with everything you said except the bolded. I saw Hertl score lot of goals his rookie year and if he can that touch I can see him scoring more than 40 pts. He showed it once so I do think he can do it again.

Monahan I think may score 40 goals. Kid put up 31 last year as a 20 year old. He will mature more and also the flames are getting better so I could see him hit 35 maybe 40.

I think you could throw Gaudreau in there along with Ekblad and Forsberg beating the jinx. I this he has been underrated this year and I like what he brings to the game.

    Fair enough.

I would just counter with these points:

There were 3 players in the entire league last year with 40 goals. Ovechkin, Stamkos, Nash. I don't think Nash will repeat, and I don't necessarily think there will be only 3..... but I also don't think that Monahan is at their level. The jump from 31 to 40 is huge. He's got a target on his back that wasn't there last year. He'll be doing really well if he can break 30 again.

Hertl, I just don't buy it. He put up 15 goals / 25 points in 37 games two years ago.... and then 31 in 82 last year.

That's a drop from 0.675 PPG to 0.378. Is it really as big as it looks, though?

A drop of almost .3 PPG is pretty huge, but if you ignore the 4 goal game he had... and look at 21 in 36.... that's only 0.583 PPG, and suddenly the drop isn't as big.

I'm not saying that he isn't better than he showed last year... he may very well be.... but he was on pace for 55 points in his rookie year (before the injury) and scored only 31 last year (while playing every game). I would bank on him getting something in the middle of those two numbers (55 & 31). I'm not saying he'll max out at 40 points.... I called him a "40-something" point player. If he put up 29 goals and 16 assists... that'd be a pretty good season IMO.

As for Gaudreau, I didn't by into the hype last year.... I still think the small frame is going to get him. I have been wrong before though :)
